Stephen Williams will be the top receiver in Seattle?

Sidney Rice isn't going anywhere. He is healthier going into this year than he has ever been since arriving in Seattle. His offensive snap percentage for 2012 was 75%. Because of his playing style, I would anticipate 75% is probably the upper end of his managed participation for the 2013 regular season. It wouldn't surprise me to see his snap count reduced slightly to keep him fresher ..... especially with coaches more comfortable with the supplemental talent that has emerged.

Stephen Williams can certainly contribute both in relief and in specific matchup roles. Injuries in prior years stunted his growth as a receiver. I think Seattle is clearly the timely opportunity he needs to restart his development.

As far as the writers are concerned, I need to do a better job of reminding myself that the media's targeted delivery is that of moment to moment sensations unencombered with any neccessity tie anything together and constrained to no more than a 6th grade education ..... at best.

Fans should be interested in cap ramifications of roster moves. Maybe not "worry" about it, but certainly be aware of how roster decisions effect the team in both the short and long-term. To me, fans that ignore the financial impact of these decisions just come across as ignorant. And maybe it's just because I'm an accountant, but I actually find it entertaining to think about the numbers.

Interested? Yes. Panic stricken? No. And blinded to the point of worrying more about the cap than putting the best team possible on the field? Hell no.

Back to the OP, the idea that Williams will be a "top receiver" this season is beyond a stretch...barring injuries.

Fans need to stop worrying so much about the salary cap and all the ramifications of it, because it has a tendency to force people into silly conjecture (here's looking at you, Hawkblogger).

Let front office worry about the accounting - that's what they get paid for. It's pointless to stress about.
That just seems like a stupid statement.

Why don't we just stop commenting on who should make the team? That's why they have JS and PC - that's what they get paid for. It's pointless to stress about.

Why don't we just stop commenting on players' performances? Let the players and coaches worry about how they play - that's what they get paid for. It's pointless to stress about.

Why not put double the bacon on a bacon double cheeseburger and make it a double bacon double cheeseburger? Let the chef decide - that's what they get paid for. It's pointless to stress about.

You could say this for just about anything. This is a forum where people talk about everything Seahawks related.

Dude stop. Just fricken stop......... you had me at double bacon double cheeseburger.

Decisions now could affect being able to put the best team possible on the field for the next 5 years. Would you be willing to hinder or sacrifice your future for this year?

Being up against the cap, with 4 of the top players needing to be signed in the next 3 years does pose an interesting situation. How much are these guys going to cost? Sherman $10 mil/year. ET3 $7 mil/year. Tate (assuming he has a good year) $5 mill/year. Wilson $10 mill/year. Some guys will probably get cut. Some won't be resigned. Some will be restructured. Rolling over as much as possible might be necessary.

The final cuts will paint a nice picture on how JS/PC will look at the next few years.

Lots of tough decisions coming. Luckily, we have a great front office now - one that will find the balance between the finances and the quality of product on the team.

2014 will be a big change, to be sure.

wasn't the article on fantasy football. I'm not a fantasy player BUT... right now Williams YPC is the highest in the league isn't it? something like 30 ypc .
I'm not sure if the fantasy leagues use that or not but that guy who wrote the article is prolly looking at that number and thinking HOLY SMOKES.. that guy rocks.
and on a seahawk note:maybe he will shock us all. Larry Fitzgerald said that Stephen Williams was a #1 receiver but you know how they all are buddies :)

Definitely an overreaction. Can you imagine if Sidney was a new signing and was making his ridiculous sideline catches during this preseason? This place would be going nuts with excitement. Braylon made some nice grabs last year, too. Consistency and health during the regular season are key. In my mind, Rice is still unequivocally the #1 in terms of skill. Williams definitely looks promising right now, though.

I'm betting this god legs from Fitzgerald saying Williams has the skills to be a #1 receiver if he stayed healthy, Williams has shown his flash, I think he could be a great deep weapon especially on average size CB's, imagine Williams really tall and would treat most CB's like averge WR's treated Jennings here.

I see Williams' role similar to what Braylon Edwards' role was last season. Braylon had opportunities to put up ~4-5 TDs if he could catch or the ref didn't miss a catch in the endzone (Cardinals, 9ers, Bears and Patriots). Of course, Braylon couldn't so he only had the 1 TD that I remember. Still, that should give you an idea of what Williams might be able to do given similar opportunities given to the role.

Lockette had the one TD in his 2 catches here, so that role is going to get looks for the deep shot. I wouldn't grab Williams as a option unless I was trying a hail mary with little chance of success winning the FFL match.

How about Joe Jurevicius role? Seems like a good candidate. I realize the offense is different, so the Edwards comparo works, but Vicious was able to put up good numbers with limited catches just because of his size. This guy seems to have hands that are superior to Edwards and you and I are better possession receiver than Lockette (haha). I think you're right about his role... I just think his ceiling is pretty good and if he's smart he'll be a good downfield blocker and get the ball like Joe did due to him working constantly to get open and create mismatches with his size.
