I worked a project last year with a coworker who is a diehard Cowboys fan. During preseason, when I was espousing Russell Wilson as the saviour of our football team, this guy was telling me how his Cowboys were a cut above our Seahawks in every conceivable way. This dude was your stereotypical insufferable Cowboys fan. I preached on about how Russ would win the starting QB job and move on to dominate the league, and this guy would openly laugh at the notion.

Well, let's just say he became a HUGE Seahawks fan after we kicked their asses in week two.

It wasn't obvious to you? This was around game three or four of preseason, after we had seen Russell perform a few times. I was sold from the very beginning. It was immediately apparent to me that he had the arm and legs, and given his passion for the game plus intense focus on study and improvement, it was easy to know he would do well.

Excellence is seldom accidental. When your player is drawing comparisons to Peyton Manning, in terms of mental preparation, he is going to do well if the physical tools are there.

So yeah, I called it and was also on record in this forum saying as much.

What's your opinion of the Texans in general?

Obviously Watt is a man-beast and the undisputed best defensive player in the league.

Arian Foster + Ben Tate make a good combo
Andre Johnson + Deandre Hopkins + Owen Daniels are a formidable receiving corp

My problem is their QB. I don't have any faith that Shaub can be anything more than a stat stuffer. He shrinks in big games and they will continually be a 1-and-done playoff team with him at the helm.

Their offense seems legit, but i know nothing about their defense other than Watts.. I usually know a couple players names on the defense if they're good.. Definitely didn't pay too much attention to them last season...

similar boat here, but I saw Brady carve them up. They pretty much doubled Watt all game and no-one else beat them.

DeAndre Hopkins. He's very good and won't be an easy job but come his 2nd or 3rd year, this guy will be in the top 15 of NFL WRs.

Being mired in "Texans Land" affords me an interesting existence as a die-hard Seattle Seahawks fan living away from my hometown in Washington. As I usually have on a Seahawks cap and have select team items prominently displayed throughout the shop, I am subject to various verbal assaults which I shrug off with a professional smile. On an almost everyday basis, I get comments related to my being a fan of the "wrong team". Seriously? Give me a break, I am clearly a fan of the correct NFL football team and stand my ground being as tactful as possible. Lately, comments related to the upcoming Seahawks/Texans game in week four are starting to surface with a vengeance.

Yesterday, I had occasion to take a client's vehicle to the exhaust shop for some repairs. The shop owner is a friend, and is a guy with Texans banners all over the place and has a waiting room strewn with autographed pictures and stuff just like me. The guys that work for him are just as involved and opinionated. Thing I got from them as I walked through the door? "Hey man, are you going to the Super Bowl preview game in September?" No "wrong team" razzing, no "dude, you've got the wrong color on bro", and no "we don't serve your kind around here" comments, only a simple question that oozed of respect. A definite shift in the dynamic has occurred down here, so I thought I'd share.

Had a great conversation with the guys there about the upcoming season. Got a lot of Russell Wilson and Percy Harvin respect along with a genuine consensus that it is going to be a Texans/Seahawks championship this year. They are talking about that game as being THE game, and the one they are re-scheduling their lives around. They're not worried about Indy, they are not worried about the new-look Jags, no concern for the Pats, or any other NFC teams, they are making sure to position themselves for the Seattle Seahawks.

I'm curious: Anybody getting similar vibes from opposing-team's fans in your non-Seahawks locale?

Houston is a legit contender in the AFC. I see them, Denver or Cincy as the AF C representative against us in the Super Bowl.

I definitely see week four as a potential Super Bowl preview. It's not like I picked that game for the .NET roadtrip for the beauty of the city of Houston. Their team does a lot of things well, they have a couple years of playoff experience now, and they drafted their greatest need this year. A complement to go with Andre Johnson.

I LOVE the idea of a Seahawks-Texans matchup. And I actually think it is the game on our entire schedule which we are most likely to lose. I have us going 3-0 to start the season, and we could face a bit of a speed bump in Houston, especially if Clem is still out.

It should be a GREAT GREAT game with elite talent all over the field.

We need to win 2 of our first 3 road games minimum, imo, to really take hold of our division from the start (I see San Fran faltering and beginning 0-2).

I think Houston will pose a real challenge.

Not really an encounter but walking through McCarran intl airport in Vegas, me and a couple friends noticed that of all teams, the sports store there had more Seahawks jerseys. There was a Wilson, Sherman, Irvin and I believe Rice. Most other teams had just one. I thought that was pretty cool. Probably shouldve taken a pic.

This could be good or bad. If we can beat them in Houston (I think our toughest road game) they will be primed to destroy the Niners. On the other hand if we exhaust them and don't steal a win, they could go into SanFarn flat and be an easy target. Probably exactly what the NFL is hoping for to keep the rivalry competitive.

Hopefully we spoil the NFL front offices fun.

I don't know about that the Texan's defense is pretty good also, its hard to become king of the hill successful unless you have top notch talent in two facets: Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. Or reasonably solid in three.

I don't even know anybody who is a Texas fan but they got some pretty good names on that side other than J.J. Watts.

You've probably have heard of these names from what I can think of the top of my head (circa 2012): Connor Barwin (signed with Philly in 2013), Brooks Reed, Brian Cushing, Jonathan Joseph, and Daniel Manning. Added Ed Reed this off-season.

I also know they have Whitney Mercilus, possibly my favorite first round pass-rusher pre-Draft 2012.

And in 2013 they did pretty good drafting some names that I liked as well: WR- DeAndre Hopkins, S- D.J. Swearinger, T- Brennan Williams and David Quessenberry; DE Sam Montgomery plus two Connecticut players that were on my late round radar DE/OLB Trevardo Williams and TE Ryan Griffin.. after the fact I was pretty envious of their draft save for Montgomery but he's a much better fit for the Texs than 'hawks.

I know a Bears fan that works for the same company I do. I had not seen him in a while so I asked him if he was ready for the season. He said, " what season, football?" I said yes. His reply, " Im just glad we dont have to play the Seahawks." We usually talk smack about this stuff so I asked him if he was being facetious. He says," no Im not, I think they are gonna win it. That team is pretty sick." I was floored and had nothing else to say.
