Agreed. It's not all Grubb. Geno had a wide open TE and flat out missed him for the touchdown. If he hits it does Grubb suck? It appears he called the right play there yet we didn't execute. It's hard to take the Grubb sucks seriously if someone NEVER mentions execution. I also saw multiple running lanes wide open for Walker and he missed them and ran into defenders. I love Walker but he didn't execute multiple times either.
Now Grubb needs to get better. I'm a fan of Grubb but he has to figure something out and get these guys into better positions to win.
Matty also said Pete's defense was perfect and there was nothing wrong with the scheme when literally everyone else who broke down the tape said Seattle was stale. I take what he says with a grain of salt. He's also been horribly wrong on multiple players over the years. His opinion is no better than anyone else just because he knows formations.
We are getting yards and occassionally moving the sticks on plays and sequences that still too often suck. Just because they 'work' doenst make them good.
I dont recall anyone saying what Pete was trying to run over the last dew years as being stale. Wyman covered this a few times - that it simply wasnt true that the hawks defense hadnt evolved. It was more a function of the players not getting it - whether due to coaching or brains. Matty and Griff also spoke to that and broke down film a few times about how the plays were poorly executed.
Paul Moyer also pushed back quite a bit on the notion that Pete hadnt change and thatbif anything, what he was trying to do under Hurtt was maybe too complex because the players couldnt get it. Thats the OPPOSITE of what it was 2010 to 2019 or so when it began to shift more.
And missed open players on occassion are an exceptionnit the rule. Same with the running lanes.
Grubb's plays, timing of the plays, lack of variety, lack of feel for situations, go beyond a missed opportunity here and there.
