I didn't see Sherman's statement as "blaming" the refs, he simply was noting that they benefited from the penalties, which was a fact. I also think that the Niners constant whining about the Hawks style of play had a psychological effect on the refs, and kudos to the Niners for that ploy. It sure paid off for them.
This is WITHOUT A DOUBT true. I dont think anyone will deny the constant barrage of crying and whining that Harbaugh and the 49ers fans/players do regarding the Seahawks defense. They have picked a meme, given it momentum with their constant whining/crying, and now the media has jumped on the boat. This is a horrible set of circumstances. I think it's obvious that the Hawks are the best team in the league, but to win a superbowl, they will have to overcome the refs and the league.
It's not so much that there is a conspiracy against the Seahawks by the league. It's that the meme has been created by Harbaugh's crying/whining, the media has taken the story and run with it, and now the league is trying to "do something about it." Perception is the force not reality. Harbaugh is a smart guy, he is not beyond using every underhanded cheating tactic in the book, and one of them is to attempt to get favorable calls from the league by crying/whining for an extended period.
Pete Carroll isn't on Harbaugh's level in my opinion, because he needs to combat this in the media as well. But he is too docile for this tactic.
