Seahawks 1st quarter, 4th quarter .PPG NFL Team Rankings

What I got from this: why even try to score in the 1st quarter? Surprise, surprise, wait until 4th quarter to score but it seems Waldron‘s offensive play calling became predictable in the 4th quarter and the offense became stagnant.

This chart only looks at points scored per first quarter and the deviation is really close. The swing is only 1.9 from the highest and lowest numbers. If you had Geno Smith as your QB every year you could average 4.2 ppg per 1st quarter and lose 100 more games.

Interesting numbers. I wonder what the league average and the league leader #s are for comparison.

The Seahawks lost the time of possession battle in 2021. Their defense was gassed in the 4th quarter and couldn't get off the field. The QB and RB were also playing hurt. Not a surprise to see the 2021 offense struggling to score points late in games. Waldron is still pretty much an unknown/yet to be determined factor.

I agree Waldron is an unknown and then add it we never know when PC will intervene and revert to same old same old.

1st play of the second half of Super Bowl XLVIII is the best example I can think of to argue against this PC BS.

Whatever wind was left in Denver's sails completely departed when Harvin gashed them for another 7 points on that run back.

It was just coasting, and going through the motions after that. Short of us pulling all our starters, nothing was getting them back into that game.

1st play of the second half of Super Bowl XLVIII is the best example I can think of to argue against this PC BS.

Im also going to say the refs were particularly very bad in the 4th quarter for us last season both on offensive & defensive penalties.

I do remember that in one of those years (2017?) we set a record for not scoring TDs in the 1st halves in consecutive games. So these #s are actually not as bad one would expect. We were historically inept at 1st half scoring that year (I think the year before I stopped watching 1st halves of games...that was the year with the GB season opener in Seattle that we lost)

Literally nothing you said addresses what I posted.

I wasn't talking about the offense, and I wasn't arguing that it is BS to claim that Pete Carroll has that mantra. I was saying that the mantra itself is BS, and gave a perfect example of when the game was won prior to the 4th quarter.

When Denver came out of the half time locker room, they were fired up. They looked re-energized. They looked like they still believed they could come back, and ride the "greatest offense of all time" to a come from behind win.

After Harvin crosses the goal line, nobody on their sideline believed they could do it anymore. Manning looked crestfallen. Fox looked, well much like he always looked, puzzled and lost. The team looked absolutely dejected. Seattle looked like they knew they could coast to a win. Lynch was even wondering if they were allowed to score more, unnecessary points.

If ever there was a game that the Seahawks had completely in hand before the 4th quarter, this was it.

You can win in other quarters than the 4th.

The only thing I glean from it is that when we have a season with succesful first halves, we throttle back in the second, and when we have seasons with dismal 1st halves, we seem to turn up the juice in the second half, but overall we tend to have balanced, middle of the road, scoring.
