I was confused about whether it was an appreciation thread due to the lack of the words "appreciation thread" in the title that doesn't even appreciate the subject enough to spell his name correctly.
It literally stated within the OP that it’s an appreciation thread

Yeah, but it's up to the author of the thread to give it an appropriate title that reflects the theme of the OP and simply saying that he's retiring isn't good enough. Some people won't even bother reading the OP and just react to the title. He should have said something like "Congratulations to Russell on His Retirement" if he wanted to make it an appreciation thread.

By saying "Russell Wilson Retires" opens it up to his next gig, his HOF credentials, his career in review, etc, which we saw was discussed and perfectly within the subject as defined by the title.

AROS has made it explicitly clear to keep thread titles short. It’s the forum user’s responsibility to read the OP if they want to engage in the thread topic.

It’s the very first paragraph in the OP. Never underestimate .NET posters ability to not comprehend simple English

Like I'm going to read all that. I barely read the longer crap I post. The title made it sound like a news discussion. "Russell Wilson Appreciation Thread" isn't all that long of a title.

Everything you said sounds like common sense to me.

I do appreciate Russ though. I appreciate that his egomaniacal behind the scenes tantrums allowed us to rip off a team I don't like and build a championship core.

Russell did us dirty in the end but I still look back on his career with us as a shining light in our history. The most prolific, talented QB we have ever had to date. Thankfully we got him at his peak golden years. Everybody who wants to say we won our first Lombardi only because of Lynch and the LOB is simply being petty and myopic. Without Russell's magician-ship and escapability, no way do we sniff SBXLVIII.

Russell was many things. Talented, immense belief in himself and yes, robotic and cringy at times. Despite his Ciara Years where being photographed on the front cover of a magazine was important to him, deep down he's a good person. To this day the children's hospital he would go to every Tuesday still honors his memory and celebrates every "Blue Tuesday".

I'm immensely grateful for Russell's time with us and what he meant to our team for all of those years.

I take the time to read what you post, more than most others on this board, because you typically have well thought out insights and opinions. And I usually read them while taking a shite when I’m at my highest moment of daily clarity.

Alright, back to Russell. I stop talking now. I promise.

This is where I'm at, well said. Ever since Ciara he did get pretty cringy. Some here make him out to be some terrible person which I don't agree with.
Also JS was floating trades for Russ well before he started pushing his way out. It ran both ways.
Russ has turned into a whipping boy around here and it's gotten way over the top at this point.

It's not a question of reading comprehension. It's a question of making the thread title in a few words describe what the OP is about.

Think of it like the headline of a newspaper or magazine article.

I think a lot is to do with him or his agent trying to get JS and PC fired. Imagine ownership listened?

Its very difficult to NOT appreciate RW contributions. At least early on. However, out of sight (mostly) he was doing more harm to this team than good. Thats IMHO.

Give me a little grace on this-------->Imagine you develop a new type of cancer. In the early stages the symptoms actually appear beneficial in some way. They allow you to improve your life in a meaningful way. You achieve goals you thought near impossible to reach, you feel great about things, life appears good. Then things change. You begin to falter. Your old difficulties seem to reappear. Your Doctor has an idea what it is, but tries to mask it and basically sacrifices the parts of you that are still good. Soon, other Doctors realizes he made a mistake in his approach and treats this cancer as it should have been treated. Fortunately for you, the treatment works, the cancer is gone and what you lost during treatment wasn't lost forever, and the cure brings you back to where you were when you were at your best. Maybe even better.

Now, how do you feel about the cancer looking back? I guess you can "appreciate" the original " good aspects"......but in the end?....happy its gone and better off for it.

Here is some other stats. 5th all time highest rated passer ahead of Brady, Montana, Brees and Manning and 5th in rushing yards. That's a crazy combination. 10x pro bowls is tied for 4th all time. His playoff passer rating is higher than Manning or Brady too. Add in the 2 SB's and he is a lock.....and again, if you don't think he's a HOF quarterback you're outing yourself.

So what's wrong with "Congrats Russell on Retirement!"? Is that too long?

I agree that everyone should read the OP and I always do. But what's the purpose of a thread title if not to give an accurate description of the intended topic?

I also disagree that threads can be limited to positive comments only. So long as they meet the general forum guidelines, who cares if they're positive or negative?

If I started a thread with an OP that said "Rosie O'Donnell is beautiful", should I be allowed to tell people who think she's ugly that they can't post their opinion in the thread?

I also saw this:

Wilson is the only player in NFL history with at least 30 touchdown passes and fewer than 15 interceptions in four straight seasons. He also had three seasons with at least 30 TD passes and 500 yards rushing, which is the most in NFL history.

But there's a lot of counter arguments to be made, like no SB MVP and not only no league MVPs, but not even a single vote for one. Plus, toss in the fact that he was never selected as a first team All Pro selection and it's a strong indication that many people consider him a 2nd tier QB. Then comes the career ending belly flop.

Russell definitely belongs in the HOF conversation as we've both posted good arguments for his inclusion, but you're outing yourself if you don't think he's a HOF QB? Come on, my friend. You know better.

Not many players receive the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, and even fewer are the Seahawks players that are past recipients. Three in total (I'm including Bobby Wagner in there even though he was technically a WAS Commander)

So, Steve Largent, Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson. Have a look at the list. They are in good company.

Well congradulations on your new gig, I even took the liberty of finding you a tool so you don't look too short on TV.
