More of a challenge no doubt. But this is also a team that BARELY beat the Cards. Not that anyone would acknowledge that.

And the Hawks BARELY beat the Bengals and Rams at home.

Yep, it only matters when the Hawks barely WIN. Because winning has to be pretty.
Niners barely beat the Cards because of heart. Hawks win a close game, it's because they are a fluke

Seattle needs this to be a high scoring game if they want to win it. I don’t trust the Hawks defense one iota. Defensively they need to hit JimmyGQ early and often and he’ll revert to the human turnover machine he is. How they do that with this D-line, I don’t know.

Hit him early and often? At this point, I'd settle for once the whole game.

well for one NO is ranked 5th over all defense, and he had over 400 yards. Pitt is 11th over all and 9th in passing, and he had 300 yards. So there is a chance he will do just fine.

Now lets look at the QBs they have faced

Winston
Dalton
Rudolph
Mayfield
Goff
Keenum
Allen
Murray

So by yards the best they have faced is Winston
by QB rating the best ash been Keenum

Dalton got over 300
Murry 241

They have not faced a top 5 qb yet. Not to say Wilson will go nuts. I can see him only throwing 200-300 yards. Part do to the defense part do to PC wanting to run at all cost.

We will see.

I want to see Wilson's beautiful rainbows, just out of Sherm's outstretched hands, falling right into Lockett's waiting arms....Over and over and over again. Then after the game with Sherm in complete denial saying "no big deal Russel threw some funny little passes."

Quick passes, and screen passes (not of the bubble variety) will slow down SC’s pass rush.
Gotta also roll Russ out of the pocket often to buy time. Cannot “try to establish the run” for 3 quarters if it’s not working either.

Let's see if they go this route with the game plan. I have my doubts.

Going to be a challenge, but I think he will be fine if he can keep his ass off the turf.
Hold on to that ball Carson! Going to need you.

Will probably be about 480 yards for Garoppolo versus about 240 for Wilson. This is the game where our CBs need an int or two and where Wilson needs to continue to avoid ints of his own.

Huge game for both teams, especially Seattle, so am expecting a pretty crazy playoff atmosphere down there. Our guys had better be ready for that. I think they will be. They seem to have a confidence playing on the road that is rare.

Kyler just threw up 258 and no INT against them.. I think Russ will be OK.

The key to Russell's success will be how well we run the ball. As the Cards showed, the Niners have a bit of a weakness defending the run, especially one with a mobile QB. If we can keep their defense on their heals, make them respect the play action pass, and give Lockett and Metcalf time to get out on their routes, I think we'll be fine offensively so long as we don't turn the ball over or start committing penalties that force us to play from behind the sticks.

I'm a lot more worried about our defense than I am Russell and our offense. Our Achilles heal is our defense. We've faced some very pedestrian quarterbacks that have trashed us. If we can't get this D figured out, we aren't going anywhere.

SF's schedule has been fairly easy. Per Wyman, the opposing win percentage was lower than the teams Seattle has faced (.420) An easy number to remember.

I need to dig up the win percentage of teams SF has faced.

Edit: Found it: .340 So not a big difference. But it will be interesting to see how SF fares against Baltimore and New Orleans.

We need to nullify their pass rush put on by all those high 1st round DL they've picked and traded for. Man they are rich in that department!

Like others have said, quick passes and run the ball. Chris Carson be smashing fools like rotten pumpkins!

The thing I find interesting was the subject of this thread "Russell to struggle against SF" really did the game already happen and I missed it?

All that said ethos calling for run at all cost or alluding to it, are mistaken. We will need to pass to win. We run enough to keep them guessing, but we will need to pass to win.

Seattle will come out running, RW will get hit multiple times

I expect Seattle D to create turnovers especially in the red zone.

The best way is to throw in several hurry up downs and see if the Hawks can get SF gasping for air with their hands on their hips ; but that can be very taxing on the offense executing it too . This will be a scotch- rocks game for me .

But they are Fricken 8 - 0, wouldn't matter if they beat the Omak Pioneers, they are 8 - 0 don't you know.
