That he went and signed with the 49ers the day after the Hawks released him speaks volumes about why he'll never play for this team again.

Yes. Whatever they think Griffin is worth, give that to Sherman. Give him a nice signing bonus and some coupons at Ivars. Whatever it takes.

Sherman is washed. I loved him back in the day, but he will not hold up for more than 8 games. Think Greg Olsen, Mike Iupati, etc. Not worth it.

I say he ends up with the Jets and gets a nice paycheck from them.

He’s not coming here. If he does it’s solely for a paycheck because he knows PC isn’t bringing us back to the SB.

Adams, Diggs, Sherman, Reed, Blaire, Amadi...and Flowers to fill would make for a pretty imposing secondary.
You had me convinced until you said Flowers. He better not be on this team next year.

Can't have 5 great corners. Flowers is serviceable as a backup outside corner, to be fair. Great tackler, too.

Didn't Pete and him have a falling out? Dude would be an upgrade and it would be nice to see Pete put the team above himself.

The last couple of years I'm thinking Sherm plays a lot of that up to generate hype. Him and Clark got into it before a game his first year in SF and after the game they were hugging. Then after the stuff he's said about Russ I saw a picture of them exchanging jerseys and smiling. I'm thinking maybe things didn't blow up between him and the Hawks as much as we'd think from his comments when he got released Except for the Crabtree hate. That seems to be real :)

Respectfully disagree. He can’t cover (never turns his head to play the ball) and his tackling skills are debatable.
IMHO you can replace him with a JAG (Just Another Guy) and have no drop off.

What's the old saying....................you can never go home.

I think it applies here with Sherm. Not only do I think he'd have a hard time not falling back into his alpha male role on the defense, but I think with his diminished skills he'd be at most a one year rental DB, and I'm more interested in finding long term solutions at the DB position.

So we're not having these conversations every year.

Unlikely to find a JAG corner for what we are paying Flowers. Would have to draft one and that's one less pick to use for something we truly need.

With the lowered Cap, cheap backups are crucial to this upcoming year so I can't see us cutting anyone on a rookie deal to replace him with a FA veteran. We will use FA to fill losses, keep our young guys that are under contract and draft a few new guys who will likely not be ready until next year.

Flowers IS a JAG. He's a late round pick playing corner. If he were taking up resources, I'd agree with you.

EDIT: Oh, that's right. Forgot Flowers got a 2021 raise for his 2018 performance escalator. So he's about 2m against the cap.

I'd still prefer to keep him for that, but I'd understand if he got cut for cap savings.

If so he just wants a paycheck not a ring .

Well, the coaching staff previously denied him a second ring, so, a paycheck is what's left for him.
