I'm looking at this salary cap for the top 15 teams for 2014
9 teams on there went to the Playoffs.
3 Teams, Broncos, Lions and Eagles had more money on the offensive side but were all Top 10 Defenses according to DVOA.
Any team not listed in the Top 15 had more money tied into the offense
By looking at the salary cap and the defensive DVOA, it shows that you need a good QB and a top 15 defense (Greenbay was 16th) to get into the playoffs.
Teams like the Houston Texans (6th in Defensive DVOA), Cleveland Browns (11th), St. Louis Rams (9th), Buffallo Bills (2nd), Tennessee Titans (29th), and Vikings (23rd) went all out to spend on their defense. One problem no QB to help take pressure off their defense, which leads to no playoffs. So if you want to take the chance to get rid of Wilson and spend more money on the defensive side then no matter how elite our defense is we could very well become one of those teams.
