My point about Duane Brown is that he has an insight to Clowney that can’t be obtained from YouTube, instagram, Snapchat or anything else you can find on the google machine. He knows the guy. He knows his work habits in both practice and games. He knows his personality. He has gone against him on a daily basis in practice. He knows what kind of teammate he is. I guarantee you if John and Pete are even considering the prospect of trading for him they have had conversations with Brown. It’s called due diligence.
While this sounds logical. I'm not sure if it works that way commonly. I think for certain team leaders (for example: Russel Wilson, Bobby Wagner), I could see the GM or Coach somewhat informally asking a player for their feedback.
But I could also see this as a bit of a conflict of interest between the player and the NFL Players Union. Sometimes, things get convoluted like that. I'd guess the GM / Coach need to tread more carefully than you might expect.
I don’t see how that would be a conflict of interest. I’m sure these types of conversations happen all the time between management and players. It happens in the business world all the time. No difference than a reference. I have no doubt that Johnand/or Pete have asked Brown what he thinks of Clowney as a player and teammate. Not that hard to imagine.
^This.
That would not even be closely considered a conflict of interest.
I'll take the cap rollover and high draft pick over Clowney.Bobblehead":5jqm7j7g said:You got 20 million to spend
You got a bundle for Clark
What's there to lose, go for it, get the guy for a 2 or a 3rd round draft choice.

Maybe mid-season at the trade deadline, after the Texans have picked up nearly half of the the bill.
I would just roll with what they have now, and mid-year look to deal for a pass rusher at the deadline. Less money against your cap, and potentially less draft capitol surrendered.
Clowney is not a player that his reputation proceeds. He is a good pass rusher, not great, strong against the run, loves to get injured, doesn't miss as many games as some would think, but is seemingly always playing hampered. He also likes to turn it on and off.
I am not giving up anything significant at this juncture for him, and a 2nd rd pick would be significant.
Now if he shows he is playing heavily motivatited this year, and the Texans are still willing to deal mid year, I would be fine with the Seahawks renting him for a playoff push if the stars align.
Turns it on/off?Sounds like an old Frank Clark..I'd rather keep the cashFade":1mrmr8tx said:No, not right now.

draft a future star with those.

I know the Richardson trade didn't go as planned but it was still the right move and even with that not working out we were still in the playoffs the following year. If an unmotivated Clowney is grabbing 9 sack and solid against the run i'd like to see what a motivated Clowney next to Reed and Ansah can do.

I don't really recall ever seeing Frank Clark "Turn it on/turn it off" e.g., take a few plays off.
Maybe gassed on some plays, but the only Clark I ever saw was the one giving 100%+ on every play.
When exactly did this take-plays-off Clark appear, what games and plays?
I don't see KC giving us the package of draft picks they did for a selective-effort Clark.
And we know KC watched a *lot* of Frank Clark film before making that offer.
Please back up your assertion about Clark with some actual data.
Or did you mean it a different way than it sounded?

Freak athlete with awesome potential, makes the occasional jew-dropping play ... but in the end, does not live up to the hype.
Really a two round slip when you factor in the delay in receiving the pick (2021) assuming the formula actually works in your favor that year.2_0_6":1emto7wb said:I would do this deal, IF he would actually report without a new deal.
2020 2nd round pick straight up for Clowney
Let him play the season and hope he does great, then let him walk next season for a 3rd round comp. Essentially you would be renting him in exchange from sliding from the second round to the third.

Don't think I'd pay over a 3rd for a one year rental unless it's a guaranteed superstar which Clowney isn't.
