On the hail mary attempt today. Julio Jones went up, intercepted it and fell to the ground on the catch without getting touched by a Seahawk. He immediatly stood up and dropped the ball. And no Seahawks even tried to pick it up. If we would have picked it up could it have been a touchdown? Or was the play considered over as soon as he went to the ground Even though we never touched him?

You can see it at the end of the video here:

Wouldn't that be an example of a player giving himself up with no clear indication of attempting to advance the ball?

Probably. But he fell in the act of the catch then got up straight away and dropped the ball. It wasnt like he purposefully went to a knee and gave himself up.

I'm not bitching or anything and saying we should have won. Just wondering if we would have had an argument had we picked up the ball. Just imagine how much the league would have hated us if we had won like that. After the whole "fail mary" thing.

I remember Plax did that as a rookie with the Steelers. He caught a ball, fall down as he caught it and then spun the ball after getting up without being touched. The DB picked up the ball and ran with it.

I think Sidney touched him as he was going down...but otherwise, I think that would have been a touchdown.

Even if no touch, he's down. He went down on purpose. He's down.

I dont think he did go down on purpose though. He lept to catch the ball, was kind of leaning backwards in the air and fell.

Oh well, doesnt matter anyway. I gotta try and get some sleep, but I dont think its going to come.

Another rule question: In the fourth there was a play were Zack Miller caught a pass and ran out of bounds right before the end of the third quarter and the time ran down and thus ended the 3rd and the other where Lynch ran right down to the two and clearly got out of bounds and the clock kept running on both plays. I know it probably actually served us better, considering, but I'm pretty sure when a player goes out of bounds with the ball the clock is supposed to stop.
So my question is WTF??!!!

I think this was posted in another thread.

However, the clock starts back up when the ball is spotted, except for the final two minutes of the first half and the final five minutes of the second half.
