What's the savings by cutting Miller? I'm probably wrong but I thought I had read here on .net that we'd save 8mil by getting rid of Miller.

The number is $3 million

$1.05 million salary
200k workout bonus
$1.75 million roster bonus (due March 19)

Tanks!

Anyone who compares Suh to Percy doesn't know football. Percy was a premadonna WR. Suh is dirty, but wants to win.

Yeah, one was short and fast and the other fat and strong. Totally stupid!

SC

They are two completely different types of players. IMO much harder to change a premadonna than a dirty player. Either way, Pete would get Suh in line.

Bottom line is Suh has never been questioned in the locker-room or his play on the field. Percy has. The only problems I've heard from Suh is that once a year he steps on someone or does some dirty play after the whistle has blown. I can live with one dirty play a year. What I can't live with is a guy who doesn't get along with others in the locker-room, and a guy who doesn't even want to be on the field.

Like i said, they are nothing alike.

Pete will fix him? Same things were said of Percy. And his locker room attitude has been questioned.

I think it's interesting that people want to focus on their differences rather than the similarities.

There be some people with a real Jones for Suh.

I hear what you're saying, but I do think there's a separation "attitude" wise between a jackass in the locker room and with teammates/coaches and on the field as with Suh.

Every player to a man on the Lions loves Suh, never have we heard him being anything but a model citizen teammate. It's the on the field issues he has.

Not saying that wouldn't continue here, but I think it's important to differentiate between the two examples here.

A little off topic but I think this was the perfect story to get most of us out of the post SB funk. Hope Springs eternal already. :D

Don't want Suh. Want a player with his physical ability, that comes late in the draft, is cheap, and is "all in".

Know where we can find one?

Could someone explain why the Raiduhs have to use their cap monies. You say according to the CBA, but we have money roll over....is there a limit? I dont know...edumacate me pwease. 8)

Or as Mr Deschain would say," Would you please let me know the answer to the question I have posed? Thank you in advance." :|

Well, there are some reports about locker room issues. Just stuff I've read on the internet. He might not be a problem and there may be a difference between them, but there is something up with Suh and if I were the HC or the GM I'd definitely want to investigate further.

Perhaps he'll fit right in with a team that poops footballs. :)

Say it takes 15 million (assumes Oakland offers 18m)

Guys we'd lose:

Mebane 5.7 million
McDaniel 3.6 million
Carpenter (expected 3 million)
Zach Miller 3 million

That's 15.3m there. Figures taken from Davis Hsu's cap 2015 breakdown.

This still allows for:

Extending Wilson
Extending Sweezy
Extending Wagner
Resigning Kearse
Resigning Moeaki
Expected sign of UFA DT (2m)

It's not as far fetched as one might assume. It would require drafting replacements for Mebane, Carpenter and Miller. One could also not sign a UFA DT (since Suh would be part of that), and keep Miller and find 1m elsewhere (perhaps lose Kearse).

Thing is, at #31, we should easily be able to replace Carpenter. There will be great day one starter OG talent available at that point. Additionally, at #62, we'll be in a great position to draft a run stuffer specialist to replace Mebane. This kind of move really isn't as far fetched as we might think it

As of 2013 teams are REQUIRED to spend 89% of the cap limit.

This prevents teams from just fielding bottom dwelling losers on the cheap (like the NBA and MLB) and collect fat TV revenue and merchandise checks from the league office.

Easy game, keep Wilson on his rookie contract another year and don't plan on extending him. Think Mariners in the Kingdome. Try to win every game 11-6,

I've read a lot about what a great person off the field Suh is, all the way back to Nebraska. On the field, he just flips a switch and it's all about punishing the guys across from him. Which is the way we used to play. You didn't want to injure anyone but you sure as hell wanted to knock them out of the game.

The only way I really see this working is if Suh pulls a Revis. Gambles every year on huge 1-year deals. Considering his stature in the game, it might not be a terrible idea for him. It's working for Revis.

Can't see them pulling off a long-term deal anywhere close to his market value.

People keep bringing up Revis, but it's not a good comparison.

Revis went to Tampa on a one year deal due to only playing 2 games the prior year, and then went to NE on a prove it deal/year........and he proved it and is now going to get a huge contract.

Suh doesn't have to prove anything, he's been the healthiest most productive DT in the game for a long time, and now he's going to maximize that into a gigantic 4-6 year deal. If Detroit lets him go, there are at least 15 teams with the cap room to give him a monster contract for 15-18M per year.

Getting Suh is a pipedream, but getting Suh on a one year deal to fit our cap? That's just crazy talk.

I think everyone on this board understands its a pipe dream. Really, we do. We get it...we're all great and savvy football minds. Why are you obsessively stating the obvious?

Because people keep bringing it up.

See, that's how these internet forum things work. You state a thought or opinion, and other people comment on that.

Tomorrow I'll explain how blue and yellow make green.

DavisHsu seems to think it's more than a pipe dream. Unlikely but doable. I'll trust the guy that works with the cap as much as he does.

and cue the offseason fantasies..
The thing is you'd have to give up at least 2-3 great players to get Suh. Give up Maxwell/Bane/McDaniel or get Maxwell and give up Bane/McDaniel/Miller and Lynch retires. We'll definitely target a FA Dlineman this offseason (like we did the last few) but I don't see us giving up the 15mil+ it would take to get Suh done.
Now I will say if Maxwell does walk that could cause FO to change strategy.

I would most definitely not call Maxwell and McDaniel great players. Also you aren't taking salary cap inflation into account. Not at all.

I don't even want to think about the numbers and what not, but if he could knock off the stomping stuff and come on a rental for a season w/o disrupting the plan, it could possibly ruin the season for many NFC teams. It'd be scary as hell w/ and already scary defense.

While still unlikely due to salary cap, is it worth considering especially if the team is concerned about the secondary recovering from all its injuries and any loss of Maxwell?

Could having a strong DL could help reduce some impact of any weaknesses in our secondary?
