I mean it is a business still.. if you make a profit for whatever product you provide... you win... Money is their win.
Yes but he isn't President of the business side. He is President of Baseball Operations. A big difference.

Operations.. goes hand in hand with business... If he spends more than they take in.. thats a no go.. period... its still the same business... salaries directly relate to profit regardless of success. Just basic business

What better way to welcome your ace back by getting shut out? Mariner baseball. Nothing has changed.
Its still amazing.. yes he gave up 2... but only 2.. and stuck out friggen 10 in under 6... These dipshits still only go for the BIG ONES.. not the SMALL ball

Theres a reason they skimp on the basics.. but spend overly on two pieces ... (While Julio is NOT looking like a 300 mil investment unfortunately... because he cannot lay off that away slider and curve.. and you can literally see him SWINGING FOR THE FENCES...... on basic ass pitches.. put the damn ball in play

Congrats on being some what above average the last 6 games

Uh oh. Cal is in a bit of a mini slump. He's hitting .150 with 0 HR and 1 RBI in his last 7 games (which is getting pretty close to his last 30 AB's). Not really worried about him just yet, but I don't think this team can afford Cal going cold for an extended period.

No. He spends what the business side allows him to. It is his job to push the business side to increase his budget and then to use his given budget the best he can. He has no obligation to the business side to make money under his role. He is purely baseball ops. with a budget. And no, I am not defending him either. He is bad at using his budget.

ya unfortunately he was never going to drive in 50 runs every two months. I think he has lost a bit of patience at the plate chasing homers. I would think that is natural. Even more unfortunate that there isn't anyone to pick him up. Foolio would be it, but his swing is broken, and his view of the strike zone is blurred.

The Mariners could easily afford to spend much more on player salaries than they currently do and they would still be very profitable. The Yankees and Dodgers are consistently 2 of the most profitable teams in baseball while also spending the most on player payroll and paying $150 million in luxury tax.

There's also the safety net of revenue sharing in baseball, which makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for MLB teams to actually lose money.

The Mariners aren't remotely close to being in danger of spending more than they take in, nor would they be if they chose to spend more on better players.

100% True. They could've easily traded for Devers & absorbed the entire contract.
