RB options?

The ironic thing is Penny received the highest medical grade this franchise has ever given a prospect. RB is a tough position for maintaining health.

Penny was a man amongst boys most the time, he didn;t seem to do well with contact and breaking through tackles. He had a good line there that opened the whole and he ran away from people in college. I prefer a back that likes to deliver a blow to his attacker. Those types of backs have shorter careers sometimes but they are also game changers and get the tough yards, they wear guys out and create a sense of dread when they have to go up against guys.

That is kind of one of my earlier points. We have a bunch of bodies. None of whom should or can be expected to be RB1 when the season starts, if at all in 2026. That concerns me greatly. No idea what McIntosh can do. He hasn’t exactly played much football in the last 3 years. Then, while maybe on the worst case timing side of things, Charbs might not play at all. If he does, it likely will be at least mid season. After that, Akers, Jones and Holani don’t scare anybody. You could probably pick up similar skill sets on any day of the week. Generally, those three remind me of Travis Homer. Not terrible or anything but not RB1 or anywhere close to that. The new guy, Wilson might be better than any of them, I don’t know.

I understand the reasons why some people were not in favor of signing Walker. Valid concerns for sure if it was a normal situation. However, my view on it is that, entirely because of the state of affairs of the RB room right now (as noted above), it was a huge risk to let Walker go at this time. Terrible timing circumstances. For that reason, I would have tagged him for 2026 and then taken time to figure out what comes next. He was a readily available 2026 insurance policy. I am as hopeful as everyone else that a) someone will step up, b) Charbs comes back early, or c) JS can draft or trade for someone that can be RB1. However, that’s all wishful thinking at the moment. Free agency was another wish but that looks to have evaporated. IMO, it would have been easier to have a 1 year Walker insurance policy.

No idea about the Beretta. I’m just a person who has had gray/silver hair for 30 years.

That's what I mean when I refer to a workhorse back. They also can take the starch & fluidity out of DB's trying to stop a freight train on one play and cover speed on the next.

I don't think he missed 6 games while he was here.

Well, after looking it up, he's missed between 10 and 6 games.

I hope JS doesn't reach for a RB in the draft, but I think he probably has his eye on a couple. I see that Jadarian Price is projected to be a middle to late second round pick, but I doubt he falls to #64. Mike Washington has a better chance of being there at #64, and but that might be too high. He could be around at #96. The Athletic has him at #97 on their big board, but PFF has him at #71. The NFL Network doesn't have him in their top 100.

As for De'Von Achane, I don't think it makes sense to give up draft capital AND sign him to a big contract. He's a great talent, but he's had a lot of mileage the last two years on a pretty small frame.

Other than Love, I don't see any rookie pushing for starting time on this roster. And even Love wouldn't start until he got the protections down.

In addition, we've got a stable of RBs that have already started or played in this league.

I see us being very quiet in FA and taking BPA in the draft. We don't have any weak position groups, and only a few that are thin. That means whomever we bring in is most likely going to be cut too...

Yup even Charb is not a proven RB1 when he is healthy

People are hoping that JS doesn't "reach" for a RB but if he gets Price at 32?

Sorry but that's not a reach at all.

That's a necessity and we get a RB1 ('cause without Love in front of him in College, JP would be RB1) for 4 years on that 1st-round rookie deal.

And besides, @bileever is correct. Price won't be there at #64. The gap between #32 and #64 is too vast and he will undoubtedly be snatched up if JS doesn't draft JP at #32 if he's still on the board.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for taking the best player available. Just hoping the stars align and a RB high on our board is there at 64 or 96.

There are so many question marks at a pivotal position for a run first offense. I'm not sold on any of the remaining guys on the roster. I liken it to the situation when PC/JS first took over the Seahawks in 2010. They signed Leon Washington and LenDale White, Julius Jones and Justin Forsett were here. None of those guys were effective so they went out and traded for Marshawn Lynch after the 1st month of the season.
