I can understand trading for, and paying, Achane and not paying K9. K9 seemed like he was always missing games every year due to some kind of injury. I don't think Achane has had any problem with missing games because of nagging injuries. If we are going to pay for a top-5 NFL RB, I'd prefer it we pay one that doesn't miss games every year.
If given the option of drafting Notre Dame RB Jadarian Price with our 1st round #32 pick OR trading that pick for De'Von Achane...then I would much rather trade for Achane. Jadarian Price is not a great RB prospect and he would be a big reach if taken at #32. Price is a low 2nd round talent. Achane is only 24 years old (two years older than Price) and has at least 5 years of elite years left in him.
Here are a couple of good videos of him. I knew Achane was fast (4.32 40-yard), but he also has really good contact balance and vision. Most speed RB tend to have poor contact balance but thats not the case with Achane.
I’d love for us to get him. But, he’d be due for his extension as soon as we signed him (wouldn’t come in as a one year rental).
There are hopes as it appears Miami is trying to get themselves out of cap purgatory. They’re hitting the ol proverbial reset button.
Achane is worth it imo. He’s better than K9.
But, I don’t have the warm fuzzy that JS thinks it will be worth it. I’d hate to sacrifice this upcoming seasons chances at a SB because we’re too invested in the future.
Most of the guys will be easily replaced but, losing K9 definitely hurt. I do love our two back model. If Char weren’t injured, we likely wouldn’t be having this conversation.
But the fact is, Charb has a long road ahead of him. Fielding a team with the RB room in its current state is a huge question mark. While I have faith that JS and MM are going to do what’s best , it’s still a question mark.
I’m excited to see a healthy Kmac. I’m excited to see a healthy Holani. Emmanuel Wilson was a nice addition.
Maybe a combination of those hold it down until Charbs comes back and takes #1?
Lots of ‘maybe’…
I wouldn’t mind trading a first round and mid round pick (next years draft) for Achane. Dude averages what? 5.7 YPC on a weak team?
I don’t think it will happen though.
…..yes, I’m trying reverse psychology here.
