My thought is that if anyone in the stands had blown a whistle, fans around him/her would have immediately called the person out and gotten security. The fact that nobody "knew" who blew the whistle leads me to believe that the perpetrator was either in a large block of Whiner fans, or was on the sidelines with the 9er team.

It wasn't a false start on that bizarre play because Seattle wasn't in a three-point stance.

But the Whiners were definitely offsides:

Wow that's pretty obvious. Thanks for the pic. Wonder what the league will have to say about the officiating, if anything.

It should've been a false start, half the line moved after the whistle. Just a ridiculous play
I'm not buying that "Should Have Been a False Start" logic either, because IF there was indeed a whistle, then the players were responding to a play that isn't happening, because a whistle is the Refs job to start or stop play.
Why should they be penalized for obeying the Refs. whistle?
That punt, nor block didn't happen is what should have been called, IF the Refs have control like they're suppose have, and then re-kick.

Why assume that it was a 12th man fan that blew that whistle, because whoever did, should have been sent home with that every time he farts, that whistle is heard again. :141847_bnono:

While not confirmed, it is reported in another forum from a Seahawk fan that a SF was had blown a whistle 3 or 4 times before the punt attempt. He further says that the fan was warned along with his 3 or 4 buddies in attendance.
After his latest tweet caused the problem with the punt, their party received a free escort out of the Clink immediately.

How can anyone think it was a Seahawks fan that did it? It was a purposeful move to screw the Seahawks on the field; ipso facto, it has to have been a 49ers fan.

Would you suspect a 49ers fan of doing it in their house? Of course not, we would ALL assume it was an enemy fan that did it in that case.

I'm still just shocked even after the refs huddled about it and talked to an irate Carroll, they just let it go. wth

It was a Niners fan. He was seated one section above and about two sections north of our section, up near the 20, North End Zone, Seattle sideline. We heard the whistle loud and clear, looked up and saw a group of Niners fans being escorted out. One of my friends asked security what happened and they said the Niner fan had blown a whistle during the punt.

And yes, there were multiple Seahawk fans trying to get to the guy, someone threw a beer at their group, it looked like mayhem up there for a minute, cops and everything.

When you think that fanbase could not stoop any lower, they do something to top themselves. Bunch of clowns. You spend that much money to be kicked out at the beginning of the game?

My issue was the lack of a false start call. Two guys stood up on the line and it should have been called dead there. Ultimately the defense took care of business, but that was lame.

So does anyone know the official rules? Like if the refs had acknowledged that they heard the whistle are they allowed to get a redo of the punt? I am ignoring the fact that offside should have been called

This is probably why the 9er D line was able to ignore it. So stupid are their fans, that they are probably use to hearing such stuff...even at home. Goodell needs to get a grip on his minions, asap. I doubt even the 9ers would have objected, under the circumstances, if the play was re-played. And that's saying something.

The funny thing about that play was my mind instantly raced back to last year's hit on VD. I thought...OK, watch this thing bite them in the ass (again). When the ball got picked in the endzone, I told my buddy..."Game over". He laughed. I didn't.

That is exactly the screenshot I was hoping someone would post. In the video watch the Line Judge at the bottom of the screen, when the whistles go off he's looking to his right trying to see if the play is dead, he even goes as far as taking a step into the field ready to wave his arms, then the ball is snapped. He's responsible for making the offsides call, which unless I'm seeing things is obvious. I don't understand how he didn't make that call.
