Wilson will have to be totally aware at all times tonight. He can't hold on to the ball for too long and he has to throw it away or run after a few seconds. If he can keep their D line and Lb's running after him it will help, as they will be gassed by the third quarter. But, with that said, I have a feeling that if Mike Rob plays tonight that some of the pressure will be off of him. Hopefully they play a lot of split back sets and I formation to help protect him.

I know you aren't supposed to look past games in the NFL but with that I am looking at every game as part of developing our young QB. Standing in the pocket and moving WITHIN the pocket is part of of that development for the future. Today should be a perfect game to get some of that ironed out and work on short-passing game, screens and then a few killer deep bombs

We need the full passing game package to be peaking in 10 weeks or so.....

He'll take some hits but although he's short Wilson is built really stout. Not worried about his health. He'll be fine and he'll make the plays to win (I expect in blowout fashion).

Seems like every team we have faced has a "great front 7", and how has it worked out so far?

I, like the OP would also like to see less hits on RW, but it goes with the territory.

Chris Long utterly blew up our line last year... in Seattle, against our starters.

Yup, and it won't be any better with our banged up OL. At minimum, all Wilson needs to do is to stay healthy, not fumble, and keep the possession on our offense as long as possible for the defense to rest. Our D/ST should score some points.

At the same time, Dockett sort of blew up our line last year as well, right? We handled him pretty well last week.

I think Tom and the guys will find a way to keep First Name, Russell upright.

The Rams have a great line. I am really hoping that they improved the blocking schemes. I'd keep Miller on the left and use MRob to chip the rusher on the right.
However I still think the best front 7 I have seen was in game 1. They were excellent, so I have hope we get through it ok

We handled Dockett alright but Russell got blindsided a couple times and got battered heavily last week. Not the example I would use to generate optimism for our pass protection.

Scariest tackle wasn't a "crushing hit", it was Russell being dragged down under the guy's body weight, which is dangerous as hell but that can happen to any QB in this league behind any line.

Not only do the Rams have a respectable D-line, they're the ones who developed the formula to shut Wilson down last year. You won't see him ripping off 15-yard runs tonight. The Rams know how to keep him in the pocket with their DEs and then delay-blitz him. They'll force Wilson to throw from the pocket all night long.

Well said....this line needs to Man-up and pass protect better.....or we just run 50 times and try to mash it down their throats all game to stop their pass rush, hmmmmmm!

Good call. I'm stumped as to why St Louis got so many unblocked rushers pummeling our QB and hammering our running game.

I can take an ugly win, if our QB doesn't get hammered in the process. But too many times I saw the TE and RB NOT EVEN CHIP! Just run straight through the line and avoid the DL giving them a free run at Russell.

I love what Pete has done and support him but I think last night's game plan was a major fug up.

If you expected our QB to get hit less than 4 times - in the first half alone - you were being completely unrealistic.

Rams have the best DE combo in the league and a serviceable rest of their front 7. We, however, have had a patch-work offensive line that has been probably one of the worst three pass blocking units in the league.

This is like buying a lottery ticket and deciding you're going to rage if you don't win, even though the probability of you winning is less than 1%.

This is somewhat hyperbolistic, (is that a word?). Nobody on this board expected our QB to get hit less than 4 times. And most of us knew that St Louis has a great DLine, 3 early 1st round picks on there? Yea, we knew that.

A lot of us already knew that Robert Quinn is one of the best DEs in the league. I would do whatver I could to sign this guy away from the Rams when his contract is due. The addition by subtraction hypothesis works very well in that circumstance.

But the free runners to the QB? I counted at least 5 times that Quinn or Long came relatively untouched and blew up our QB. There is no excuse for that. I was so livid about the lack of pass protection I had to medicate just so I could go to sleep last night. :cussing:

Like I said before, I don't mind ugly wins, they build character, but to only give Marshawn 8 runs and get our QB blown up? Ridiculous. And I don't want to hear the "8 men in the box excuse." When has that stopped us before? The alternative, getting our franchise QB hammered, wasn't any more successful was it?

Point 1: Rams DLine is vulnerable against the run (#23)
Point 2: Rams DLine is phenomenal against the pass and will take your QB down! (#12)
Point 2a: Rams have 25 sacks which has them tied at 5th place

Point 3: Seahawks OLine sucks against pass rush
Point 4: Seahawks OLine is decent in run blocking.

Put our best skills against their worst. It protects the QB, takes time off the clock and rests the Defense. But instead we had St Louis TOP 38:09!!! and Seattle TOP 21:51.

Pretty simple imaho.
