Ok I figured with cuts coming we could have a bit of fun with this and go position by position with .Nets experts to see what we end up with as keepers. Comments welcome, not included are those on injury lists or unable to perform.

Lets start with Centers and Cornerbacks, Centers are pretty much a given but hey they are part of the roster.

Centers

60
Unger, Max He stays as starter

61
Jeanpierre, Lemuel Back up Center and can play Gaurd safe this year.

Cornerbacks

37 Blackmon, Will CB. Older Vet, savvy but we have Winfield also, return guy but we have plenty there also, I think he is cut and picked up as a possible nickle guy or as a starter for a decimated team.

39 Browner, Brandon CB , not going anywhere

20 Lane, Jeremy CB, First of the real decision guys, I think he stays, he has skills and speed, young and showed he can step in.

41 Maxwell, Byron CB, I also think he sticks, due to nobody has shown they can displace him.

36 Parker, Ron CB, Parker has been floating around the team for a couple yeares as a defender back in the secondary but never really showed up anywhere to taken as a contender for a spot, probably be gone completly this year and not PS.

35 Shead, DeShawn CB, 2nd year guys, not sure about PS eligible, showed up and has made plays, I think he is cut and picked up.

25 Sherman, Richard CB, Not going anywhere

28 Thurmond, Walter CB, From everything we have read he has been a star this preseason, has shown rust but also made plays, I think he sticks for initial cut down, Winfield and him vieing for same spots boths can also back up either true Corner, this will be interesting to watchm Thurmonds injury history would be my biggest detractor, although a trade may happen to a needy team before last cuts. I have always wondered if he could convert to FS also with his speed and we drop Maragos.

21 Winfield, Antoine CB, Savvy vet with one of the best ratings last year, has not seen the field much in pre season, I think they know what he brings and are just keeping him fresh like other vets, he sticks.

Those are my thoughts, whats yours?

Cornerbacks are just as set in stone as centers, imo. The six you have staying stay, the rest go.

Tharold Simon goes on IR to see what he has next year.

fullbacks and guards next I take it?

How many active DB's will we have? 7 or 8, right? Lane would be the 5th corner, no way they can keep 6. 3 safeties? Maragos or Guy? I don't see how Maxwell or Shead can make the team. I know they like Shead, based on the attention he gets from Kris Richard and the other defensive coaches, so hopefully they can slide him onto the practice squad.

IMO, Guy, Maragos and Maxwell are playing for two spots. You can tell they like Shead by all the attention he gets from coaches at practice, and not just Kris Richard. I think he is PS eligible if he doesn't get swooped up.

If that's true, Guy has to go.

Maragos is worth keeping for special teams alone.

That's the way I see it as well. Bradley will snatch up Guy in a heartbeat. I have a slight edge to Maxwell, I would go with however I believed had the most upside. Almost any DB cut will be snatched so I don't think we can stash anyone.

What CB did we draft this year? Simon or something? Is he even still around?

There is no need to IR Simon until the end of the PUP period, it'll likely happen then though.

Agree the CB keepers are Sherm, BB, T3, Winfield, Lane, and Maxwell.

More interesting will be the keepers at S. There the locks are Thomas, Chancellor, Johnson, and then the interesting choices begin between Maragos, Shead, and Guy. I think Guy get cut and clear waivers to the PS but don't know between Maragos and Shead. Both of them are fast and versatile but Shead is bigger and younger and possibly more versatile though Maragos is no slouch. I doubt either would clear waivers and both would make another roster.

Other choices are going to be tougher:
@ G & T
@ RB/FB/ST
@ 5th & 6th WR
@ 3rd TE
@ Leo
@ DT (think Williams goes on IR)
@ 5 tech
@ OLB
Do they choose experience or youth on ST?

I don't know if you can keep 6 CBs. You certainly can't keep 6 CBs and 4 safeties. At least not on the active roster. You only get 53, you can't have 10 of them be DB's.
