I don’t trust Sam when the lights are brightest

Minus the qb play, sure.
Darnold moved that ball pretty easily against the so called vaunted Rams defense. Stafford didn't go shit. We shut his ass down to 130 yards passing and his worst performance of the entire season. They scored 1 offensive TD, ONE. The Rams are smoke and mirrors.

No arguments here on Rams. Good but overrated.
As far is Sam goes......in high leverage games, Darnold has historically been bad. No sugar coating changes that fact.
Stafford def. didn't have a great game. Then again, he had zero turnovers and took what was given to him. I like Darnold a lot, but I just think he has a long way to go as far as showing he can be clutch in big games. Stafford is clutch, he doesn't force things. Shoot, he hasn't thrown a pick in close to two months. We keep hearing "It's all about the ball"
Well, we have the most turnovers in the NFL. At some point, it needs to be ALL ABOUT THE BALL.

He has been this guy from day 1. This is his first pass in the NFL...

Its not even high pressure games. i mean, give him credit against the Bucs... he was dealing until the last play of the game. its more like high pressure moments. In certain spots, when things start moving quickly, he doesnt move quick enough and does dumb sh!+.

Good thing ? Here, he has a staff that is committed to him where the Jets and Panthers bailed quickly. The Vikes never embraced him completely because he was a stop-gap.

Hopefull the certainty he gets here from the coaches and teammates allows him to push past his problems.

This is predictably the national narrative today for obvious reasons. Sam crumbles in big time games. Agree?
So far, he just hasnt been the guy you can count on in a tough game. The San Fran, Tampa Bay and now Rams game, not to mention the two game last year for the Vikings are examples. Maybe this will change and his confidence will improve, but when the game is on the line or a tough opponent, he seems to crumble under the weight of the moment.

I'd love to debate with you but there's really nothing to debate over. The proof - so far - is in the pudding.

IF they win these next 4 games, that Rams game is a playoff game in my eyes. I'm not predicting they go 4-0, but they absolutely are capable of running the table before the LA Farce game.

OT: Did Horton play Sunday? It seems like it's JSN, the TEs or bust? I know Shahid just came into the mix, but I'd like to see more production from Horton.

That’s part of the issue. JSN is great. But with Horton missing so much time, who is left that scares you if you are opposing defense?

Cooper has a few nice grabs, but is not getting the same kind of separation now as he did a few years ago for the Rams. It takes time to develop talent and more importantly, chemistry.

One thing that needs to be improved on: THE RUNNING GAME. This team was billed as a running team. While it has had its moments, you can't win a title w/out a solid running game, imo. It would take a TON of pressure off of Darnold.

I look at Sam as I would look at Dave Kreig. He has talent, he can win big games, and he can go stretches where he looks incredible. He also has mental lapses, turnovers by the loads, and sometimes seems to force matters.

Do I think he is capable of playing good enough to beat anybody? Yes
Do I trust him to do that? Hell no. I dont expect it.

I thought the Shaheed trade was suppossed to cure this? That's what a lot of .Netters were saying anyways when a lot of us others were saying,,,,,eh.

Come on Pitt. He's been here 2 games and had minimal time before the first game. He will be a hell of a contributor.
Pretty early to claim victory on that prediction, brother, even for you ✌️

As ever the thread goes off track (Shaheed). Those who are calling down Sam are not appreciating just how good he has been save for the ball insecurity. To me it looks like he is trying too hard at times to make something happen when it just isn't there and he should just get rid of the ball. For sure Darnold seems to choke when the pressure comes on and perhaps he isn't trusting the rest of his team, in particular his D. Hopefully he will get this message for the final stretch.

As for Shaheed, he's been here less than 2 weeks and like most players needs to get familiar with the scheme and the rest of the guys around him. I have faith he will make some big plays showing why he was traded for before the end of the year. The O is presently limping at few key positions but players are starting to begin to return while the D is doing an amazing job playing through the missing key players of that unit.

The team will get better this weekend and be start to be improved for the final stretch. We need to be patient.

I could be wrong, but I would think that timing and trust might take more than a couple weeks, especially in a critical and tight game.

Shaheed is a piece, not an answer. I wish they would have upgraded Anthony “Wiffs” Bradford, but I don’t write the checks.

We all wanted them to add. Basically, nobody around the league added a guard at the deadline. Teams probably just don't want to part with a good O lineman. O line play is pretty bad overall in the league currently.

And that goes with the position too. QBs for the large part will always make fans nervous. Just like kickers.
I want to be all in on trusting him, but this isn't a fluke, he has been a turnover machine. He has played well and won a lot of game the last couple years. But it's the BIG games that he needs to cut WAY back on the bad decisions. You can't panic as a QB, you can't force things as a QB. You have to take what the defense is giving you. The Hawks win that game easily if he even just throws 2 picks, imo.
The defense was playing lights out. Why in the world are you forcing passes and giving them a short field? Take a sack or throw it away. Punt it away and play defense. Rams' offense had around 250 total yards. Just my opinion, but that is handing a game away.
I'm not turning on the guy, and I'm not being a "hater" or whatever. These turnovers are a REAL concern.
Yes.
And is it just me, or does it seem like if we just get the running game going, most of these problems go away?

I think some recognition & "Tough Love" needs to be applied here by Kubiak and company.
It's obvious that SD has a problem speed-reading defenses, so it's on Kubiak to make the compensative in game adjustments.
I mean hey, defense is making in game adjustments and doing their part, time for the offense to match up.
