Our offense without deadweights

John Schneider wisely identified that our OL problem originated with the deadweight around their ankle, with that, he rid the team of DK, Geno and Lockett. The result is very very promising, let's take a peep:

Darnold:
For 12s, focus one one sack!


Deaweights:
DK, for 12s, focus on 7 targets for 4 rec.

Geno, for 12s, focus on 1 int. and 4 sacks.

Lockett, for 12s, focus on 1 target, 0 catch.


Our OL will power the team to post season glories.

Lets have some perspective. To be honest I think it was more of an opportunity cost which prompted the soft reset on offense for the Hawks.

The Raiders OL is on the rise and Geno is a great distributors of the football as that is how he was in college. The Raiders have a diversity of skill sets at the offensive skill positions.

Metcalf did pretty damn good going against Sauce Gardner. But he has room for improvement too as he did have some drops. But his size on the boundary allows smaller WRs like Austin and Miller do their work when he draws doubles. Same with Smith and Freiermuth pulling doubles due to their size.

I watched Fant closely and he looked pretty comfortable as a Bengal. He had 4 receptions for 26 yards and a TD. Apparently Fant CAN be used in the red zone. With Burrow he might become a 80-90 catch TE again but right now he is probably closer to the 60 catch per year type. Still a hard player to replace especially if Barner and Arroyo are not included in the game plan enough.

And yes the improved OL play could flip the script and help the Seahawks come out firing on all cylinders. You still have JSN, Charbs, Arroyo, Barner and K9 who I have not given up on because these guys can give you big play potential. Darnold is at this best using as much time as possible to go through his reads so if this OL ascends then you might see the Seahawks offense come alive.

Yeah. The fact that the OL only gave up that one "sack" (which wasn't truly a sack) is VERY encouraging.

Those are all fair points but the loss of Fant, Lockett, Metcalf and Geno were opportunity costs. We will see the outcome as the season progresses if it was worthwhile. Basically what I am saying is that we need a larger sample size to pull some conclusions. My gut reaction was the Seahawks lost too much on offense in one off season but we have to see if the gamble to do the soft reset pays off with a similar outcome in wins.

I have no idea how anyone can take minimal stats of different players from different offensive schemes and teams as a spring board for reaching any conclusions. That's not analysis. That's just a narrative.
