If Mac Jones starts the rest of the way, he'll end up with better season stats than 2024 Purdy. Purdy hasn't looked good since that stacked 2023 team. He's an injury-prone, average-armed (being generous here) QB that had early success in Shanahan's system when they were loaded at weapons. There's a good chance Jones is the better QB already. If they weren't anchored to that contract, I'd have to think they'd give serious consideration to trading Purdy this offseason and rolling with Jones. As is and despite how QB-needy this league is, I'm not sure who would take a chance on a potentially system QB on a bad toe with that contract.

This man is credentialed by sports illustrated. He has been in every 49ers press conference for decades. I understood what he was saying in a heartbeat when he said “soft benching.” Kyle has already said Mac’s play resulted in him having less pressure to hurry Brock. And we now have Steve Young opining that were he Brock, he would demand an end to this precautional sitting that Cohn calls a soft benching.

I’m happy to only use the b-word only as it refers to strictly non injury demotions, but as seen above, it remains in parlance within the mainstream press.

Grant uses the b-word here for the second time in one week to describe his take as to the fact Purdy’s time spent sidelined is soon expected to end with Jones reverting to qb2. There is no indication that Grant believes what he calls to be a “benching” is him trying to mislead readers that Mac is being demoted for performance, which is a overly narrow definition of the adjective. If anything, I regard this as a style book copy editor issue.

It's obvious it's a benching to get him to 100%, otherwise he
will just go out and hurt himself and the team.
I see this too often like Baker and Me3 play hurt and they lose.
To me that is the dumbest idiotic thing a QB does and proves
nothing besides being stupid.

My 49ers husband wanted Mac to be started and describes the end of that as being benched back to qb2. Whatever we label it as, I understand the strategy. You get Brock in a a presumed four game easy streak and and he loses one or even two, people will call that knocking the rust off. Lose more, and it’s pretty easy for the team to go back to keeping him sidelined.

Larry is not even a provocative member of the 9ers press corps yet documents that Brock will start “compromised.” Once having started down the path of restarting Purdy, it will be increasingly awkward to pause it again.

This is my point if you look at what Larry is saying, "Moving gingerly"
"Passing looks off".
Why would you run him out there?

if Purdy looks objectively hurt in the tiny part of individual drills that media are allowed to see, imagine him trying to scramble away from Budda Baker on Sunday. Bringing Brock back now heightens the risk that his plan will involve IR for unavoidable surgery in coming weeks. But at least they can say they tried.

I don't care, I think it's ridiculous. It looks stupid. And yes, I'm aware he played for both teams. Just comes off as a front runner.

He will always be a Seahawk. F the Niners. I'm not required to like it. I'm good with my pure sports hate.

Sherm’s perspective will be necessarily nuanced being that hes been on both teams. If ever kj wright restarts his podcast, he will have perspectives influenced by the fact he’s been a Niners coach for two years. Klint Kubiak is here to instill concepts from shan that the hawks find useful,

Guys like this are prone to arguing ambidextrously in an analyst role having been on both sides. You actually learn more from a guy like Sherm than a old homer.

I stopped listening to most of what Sherm had to say a while ago. And he's one of my all-time favorite HAWKS players. People acting surprised because I just think it looks stupid for him to wear gear for both teams. Meh, I have my opinion, and I stick with it.
It's an observation, nothing more. I think it's lame, others don't. Cool.

Exactly. The man wears too many hats for my taste. His tune changed pretty quick after a four game winning streak by the Hawks.
