Kyle insists there’s no qb controversy, as if, but if Mac wins, there will be one.

Purdy’s 181 million guarantee at 53m apy means his first plausible out is 2027, and Mac is signed through 2026.

There are worse things for a team than to have two competent starting QBs. Too bad the whiners don't have a lousy backup like most of the other teams in the league.

If we have learned anything from contracts that were ridiculously overpriced for a quarterback, look no further than Russell Wilson in Denver and how Denver recovered rather quickly. People said it would set them back 10 years and it didn’t even set them back 1 year after they released Wilson.

Jones has played well and Purdy is still listed as questionable. Given the long-term investment in Purdy I wouldn't rush him back in there. Obviously they'd prefer to have a healthy Purdy firing on all cylinders against a rival. However it's probably more important to be healthy at the end of the season. Their season isn't over if they lose on Sunday. I'm not seeing this as a QB controversy.

Dan Orlofsky has actually used the c-word while Steve Young has suggested that Brock should protest if he thinks he’s being held out not just over abundance of caution, but an over abundance of bullshit. This week, Kyle is saying Mac will start and Purdy might sit qb2. And that could be status quo for 2025 as Kyle’s already to.d the media he doesn’t expect the toe to fully heal this season.

I remember Goff getting hurt and he was replaced by Wolford. In the playoff game McVay decided to go with Wolford and have Goff as the #2. Wolford got taken out with a cheap shot and Goff came in and won the game. Coaches sometimes make strange decisions.

At this point I don't see an issue. If Jones is still starting in 2 weeks time then we could say there could be an issue.

Doesn’t much matter if Jones keeps winning.

This seems to be a lot assumptions/wishful thinking. Purdy is dealing with an injury that has a history of lingering, while Mac is playing well and the team as a whole is highly competitive. Sounds like Shanahan is just being cautious to me. I'd hope we'd do the same if Sam goes down with something and Lock kills it in his place.

Saying he's being "benched" is straight disingenuous.

The thread title and triggered discussion is indeed disingenuous.

I'd classify the thread title as "a fake headline".

Same thing happened to Jimmy G tbh. It’s Shanahan’s Modem Operandi. Meanwhile according to Grant Cohn Purdy has been healthy and practicing for the past three weeks lol

Would you say Kyler Murray is benched? How about Burrow?

I’ve always regarded benching as a neutral term covering players who aren’t on the field.
