He was a far more disruptive player then Clark...Stats dont show it but you can clearly see the difference. My only concern is injuries.

This, exactly. Clowney causes problems all over the line, and other DL benefit from it.

But Todd has a point. Several sources claimed that Clowney was asking for North of $22 million, long term, with guarantees. But nobody would give him that kind of money.

I wish he would have taken the $18 million the Seahawks were rumored to be offering. But now he's lucky if he will get 12.

I think he's a great player, just not Aron Donald or Kahlil Mack great.

Well Clowney has to make a decision this week or he risk's missing the 1st game. Unless Seattle offers him 17 Clowney will not be back here. There is reports all over the place saying he wants to go back to a 3-4 defense to pad his stats. Seattle runs a 4-3 defense. It's the Titans or the Ravens that's who I am going with.

Actually a 3-4 is worse for him because then he becomes a linebacker, and that's $18 million per year max.

Even if he plays LB and on the D-line? Wouldn't he be labeled a Hybrid LB/DE

“Clowney, right now, the belief is he’s just going to sit out of training camp because he doesn’t like training camp. He had an issue with training camp when he was with Houston. He’s going to wait until the end of training camp unless someone blows him away with a huge contract.”

This right here is the reason I cant stand Clowney, and the reason why he is garbage. Ive said it a thousand times Clowney is bag chasing. A lot of people don't realize Clowney hasn't been to training camp in 3 years. Good I hope the ravens sign him.

I'm always amazed when people expect players to be socialist but owners/teams to be as capitalist possible

And brother, it's not even close. Those are players with the talent AND the relentless motor that shows up EVERY game.

I don't think that really the case, he may want to have more help so a O line cannot just scheme for him as much, we seen all the holds last year, he is looking for a fit, him say on a Rams line would be ideal for what he wants to do, he has studs all over and they would have to play him one on one, not that it will happen but I think he wants that support across the line.

Has anyone thought they he may just sit out the season?
Coming off injuries, Covid situation. It might be one of those situations where if they don’t meet his inflated demands he’ll just sit this one out. He may not find it worth playing this season with risk of injury or illness worth it this year.

Lots of good points made in this thread, top to bottom.
I'm holding to the hope Clowney knows what his limitations were last year, how that compares to what he feels like now. I'm hoping he recognizes the improvement the team has made, and how that would help his individual ability to perform, and how that would/could translate to the ultimate achievement this game has to offer in terms of WINNING. I love the guy and am hoping he comes back to be the game changer he CAN BE.

If he does, that will only hurt his chances again next season. All questions will still be there, plus the fact that his desire will be even more in question after sitting out a season. Also, he is unlikely to ever make that lost cash back again for the rest of his life.

Yup, you don't turn down 10 million for zero even if you think your worth 20.

He'll sign right before the season.

..................if he is smart. If he sits it out...that will tell you something about his intelligence.

Perhaps it's wishful thinking (because I think Clowney would make both our run defense and our pass defense stronger) but I have a feeling that we will get an announcement this week that the Seahawks have agreed to terms on a one-year deal in the range of 13 Million. It is rumored that the Titans and Hawks are the two teams left, and if Clowney isn't leaning toward Seattle, how could you explain the fact that he has been invited to the Titans for a physical, but has not travelled there.

I dont know. Wasn't it something to do with COVID that he didn't go there. I am 90% sure Clowney won't be back here. I will be shocked if Clowney re-signs here.

After the Hawks @ SF game last year, there was no doubt that JC was a $18 Million DE ... after watching the NFL.com replay of the great T Bay-Hawks OT game last night and watching JC closely, he was just 'another guy' -- perhaps the money allocated to signing him might be directed elsewhere.

I think with Jackson and Taylor's injuries and the lack of DT signings there might be more urgency from the Seahawks. $13M 1/yr "prove it" deal with a shot at the Superbowl sounds like it could work for all parties.
