Who would have thought that the #1 HS basketball team in the nation would be Nathan Hale. Not Rainier Beach. Not Garfield. Nathan Hale.

I'm going to have to watch some of their games.

They just won the Les Schwab Invitational which is a pretty big tournament with too teams from across the country. Brandon Roy is their head coach.

Yeah Nathan Hale beat the #1 ranked team, Sierra Canyon, who has the 2018 #1 recruit Marvin Bagley.

Here are the full highlights. Hale was down 9 going into the 4th quarter. The 4th quarter starts at about the 8:15 mark on the video:

Apparently MPJ scored 52 points against O'Dea in only 3 quarters of play.

He could probably start on most NBA teams right now as a HS senior.

I got to watch some of this game as it was on ESPNU this morning. MPJ is very special. They were saying during the game that his brother Jontay, who is a grade younger than MPJ may try to take extra classes this summer so he can graduate and play with his brother at UW next season.

Yep. Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and a bunch of other NBA players have come out of Oak Hill Academy.

I think it is super cool how successful you have been in your coaching career.

Maybe if you coached a real sport, like cheerleading, or bowling or something.

Seriously though, #2 in the country is something to be proud of, regardless.

Nathan Hale vs Garfield is on ESPNU tomorrow night (Friday) at 8 pm. The Porter brothers vs Daejon Davis and Jaylon Nowell. I believe all 4 guys are commited to UW.

REad a piece the other day on Porter and his "school day" Made me feel pretty icky. Hope for his sakes he makes it to the NBA and isn't another in a long line of "cant miss" kids who were turned into a statistic.

Im paraphrasing but the timeline is like:
"Wakes up around 9:30-10 every day (home school) eats, then does about an hour of "school work". Goes to UW to work out around noon. Comes home does about another 30 minutes of "school work" then "just chills" until 3 when practice starts at Hale"

Yes, all four are committed to UW. Jontay right now is a junior, and is suppose to come a year after MPJ. But apparently he is going to try to take summer classes so he can graduate HS and play next year with his brother at UW.

That sounds like the life. Both Porter kids are home schooled.

Nathan Hale defeated Garfield last night on ESPNU. I thought Garfield was the better coached team, but Hale just has too much talent. I didn't know this, but Freddy Brown's son plays for Hale (Freddy Brown III). Nowell and Davis looked very good, I was actually more impressed with them than MPJ. Both of those guys should be able to help UW next year as freshman.
