The Lions have a pretty excellent offense and NMU just doesn't work indefinitely. The defense was outclassed by a far more talented offense. You tip your hat to an offense that felt like it had something to prove and came out and played well.

I didn't see Seahawks defensive players giving up -- I mean look at when Spoon got absolutely leveled and trucked and was almost there to make the tackle some 30 yards later.

This defense has fight, but you also need top end talent. If I'm MM I'm going to be angry of course, you got out-coached and out-talented on defense, you felt like you gave up more than you should. But also you look to rebound, get some guys healthy, and win a few more games.

Dang,

I bet your really hard on a waitress in a busy restaurant.

:)
Is the waitress in this scenario spending half her time texting friends and flirting with the kitchen staff while they're busy and understaffed, and then complaining that it wasn't her fault that she put in so many orders incorrectly? Otherwise, I don't see how it's a relevant comparison.

The last thing you said was the important part. I didnt see a defense that cant play. I saw a defense that was forced to be called in a way that created liabilities and as a result, had players taking risks i doubt they otherwise would have.
Exactly.

We had guys starting on the D line and at LB that should probably be selling ******* insurance. No team has depth to cover for the loss of - what 5 or 6 starters on D? Yeah a couple of quality D players were in the lineup - but how in the blue **** do you expect them to compensate while getting sup-par (read no) help from insurance salesmen?

What about 6 starters being out doesnt translate here. Tell me what team in the league can be down SIX starters (the whole D line) and beat a top 5 team in the league?

Who has a scheme to overcome that?
Teams have been banged up worse and still caused an incompletion. Detroit made league history against the hawks D. That record will probably stand forever. That's one way to leave a legacy as a defensive coach.

Look regardless of how everyone feels, next game, get the f over it and everyone stop with the veiled attacks on one another we’re all going to have differing opinions, agree to disagree and move on

Man, this place is something else. Are people honestly already bashing MM 4 weeks into his tenure? I've loved the adjustments and overall design of his defense so far compared to the garbage Pete Carroll ran for the last 5 years. This wasn't some bottom feeder coming into Seattle and kicking their ass, Lions went to the wire with the 49ers in NFC Champ game. They likely are a top 3 seed again this year. It's going to take more than 1 season to get the roster and scheme he wants to run going. Gotta assume many of these guys aren't a part of the long term vision he has and the next few years will have some drastic roster overhaul.

Injuries of course mattered last night when you are missing multiple of your best DL against a top 3 OL that wants to pound the ball. Lions were able to do everything they wanted on offense because their all star OL was having their way with backs up. At home. Having knowingly lost the last 6 games against Seattle. MM was understandably pissed watching it, they got bullied and he wants to be the one with toughness. But there's no way the defense that bailed out the offense for 3 weeks looks that poor if they have their starters.

I get the crowd that says that injuries aside they should have figured out a way to win and this and that. Well, they almost did find a way to win in a similar manner as they had the years prior in a high scoring affair.

Two main things influenced this game imo. DKs fumble and the OPI on Lockett. Both swung us the wrong way when they were about to score and tie it up. Who knows what happens after that.

Regardless of how we were getting gashed it was still close and I don’t care who says it doesn’t matter but missing 6 key pieces is a BIG difference. Nwosu, Williams, Murphy, and Mafe those four alone make it a different game. Add Baker and Love on top of that and it’s a different game.

They are on the right path and we have a rookie head coach. Mistakes will happen but this team fought hard and will get better. Ask the 49ers how many years their team got derailed by injuries? How many years was that their excuse? Just saying that in the end the 6 starters missing would have helped big time. Did the defense look really bad at moments? Yeah that’s expected with so many out. Yet we still had many opportunities to win.

Our DL depth was very thin prior to the season, right?
It's obvious what they got to fill in isn't what MM is going
to keep for long.
I have to think the trades are going to happen soon and the
draft people here are not going to like it, but we need more now.
It's going to cost some picks if we hope to go far this season.

DK is a beast, he kept his cool all day. All while getting MUGGED on just about every play. Having a 2 pt conversion not given to him (his shin was down in bounds) and getting hugged in the end zone. If people can't see his growth and how much he has grown up, I'm not sure they ever will.

I'm glad I didn't read the rest of this thread. Sounds like exactly what I thought would happen after the 1st loss. Mcdonald sucks, blah blah blah. 5-7 starters out, including their TOP 4 D LINEMAN, and people want to blast the defense? Just wow. Some things never change.

Nope, this team is on the rise, and they're making the playoffs THIS SEASON.

The argument that the defense should be protected from any criticism due to the injuries is IMO folly. They were outclassed to an extent that I think not even the most pessimistic of fans were expecting.

However, DK temperament I’m in agreement with. Kept his head down, spoke calmly to the refs and battled. There is still the same gripe about ball security when he is fighting for additional inches; but at this point I think most accept this is how he will play and you take the rough with the smooth.

Very predictable loss, but the offense was excellent and with a fully healthy defense I think they will be very good. Playoff team for sure; still plenty to work on obviously.
