Just FYI....draft compensation not that big a deal.

yes, they lose a 2, a 3, and a 4 next year, but they were already scheduled to have 3 3rd rounders (compensation for Saleh, McDaniels, and Mayhew) and could end up with another 3 if they lose Ryans.

IE they still have 2 3s and may get another.

Good luck trying to stay relevant with no draft capital. Lynch seems to get ripped off every time he makes a trade. They traded Buckner for a first then drafted Kinlaw who hasn’t exactly been living up to the pick. Then the 3 firsts for Trey Lance was a very bizarre move. CMC is elite but again for how long. 4 picks screams desperation. Didn’t they draft a running back last year? Forgot his name but I think he’s injured

That's the entire point. They didn't give up all their draft capitol.

They still will have at least 2 and possibly 3 3rd rounders.

it screams desperation. lynch/shanahan must be on the hotseat to make such a move at 3-3

actually... it was essentially 3 firsts + a 3rd for complete project. trey lance has done nothing for the last 3 years. absolutely nothing. that trade might go down as one of the top 3 worst trades in nfl history. and if trey lance busts, shanahan / lynch / paraang all go down with him.

It's funny how nearly all the so-called experts panned our pick of Walker in the 2nd round as insurance for an injury prone Penny. But then the 49ers turn around and give up a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th round pick for a soon to be expensive and injury prone RB who's a star when he's healthy but keeping him on the field is the real challenge.

Granted Walker is not in the same class as CMC, but the potential is there or damn close to it. Plus, he's a hell of a lot cheaper, and more importantly, we gave up a hell of a lot less draft capital to get him.

The trade doesn't seem that bad. 49ers think they have a window and McCaffrey when healthy is excellent and should be good for a couple more years.

Of course, the niners have absolutely ****** themselves for the next decade.

49ers are this years Rams, going all in this season like Rams last year. Rams win a SB but have zero depth this year a very few skill players, O-line suffering.

People keep saying this. I think you guys are really missing big picture.

If the 49ers lose DeMeco Ryans to a HC position, the 49ers draft picks for next two years AFTER this trade....

49ers 2023 draft picks :
3rd (Saleh/Mayhew)
3rd (McDaniel)
3rd (Ryans)
5th
5th (Jones)
6th (Key)
7th (from Denver)
7th
7th (Mostert)

49ers 2024 draft picks :
1st
2nd
3rd
3rd (Ryans)
3rd (Possible comp pick for Garoppolo)
4th
6th
7th

49ers traded 3 2023 picks, but they were going to have as many as TWELVE before the trade.

Hell of a gamble, it reeks of desperation from Lynch. I suspect that Shanahan and Lynch have a gun held to their head right now.

McCaffrey is a hell mary in every sense of the word. Some say he's washed up, but if healthy, from what I've seen the guy can still ball. The big elephant is the IF in that statement. For the last few years, McCaffrey has quite possibly worse durability than Penny. He's either playing injured or injured.

They're hoping, praying that McCaffrey can stay healthy. He's potentially one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL, but potential is a value that never has to be cashed in on. They're putting everything they've got all on black, hoping, praying that the roulette wheel favors them under house rules.

The 49ers are a curious case of what could have been. They had everything they needed to become a championship team. In the end they squandered it all with explosively mediocre QB play.

So,

Robbie Anderson to Arizona...
Christian McCaffrey to 49ers (almost to Rams)

Who's going to be the next in our division to make a trade with the Panthers, who will be targeted on the Panthers' roster, and for how much?

This breaks it down

The "logical" argument from the article is absurd at best. From the article, "So, overall, the 49ers could end up with more draft capital than before, even with the McCaffrey trade." This is simply not true. The comp picks being referenced would be received regardless of the trade. This trade does not result in "more capital than before".

As I said, absurd at best. More likely, this is a feeble attempt by an SF homer to manipulate the facts in a deceptive attempt to defend a questionable trade.

Of course the result is not "more" draft capitol, but all the extra picks make the trade palatable.

They had 3 3rds already this year and were in line for a 4th. They could have as many as 4 3rds next year. Those picks are now tradable so they can recoup a 2 by trading 2 3s or they can stay where they are.

Of course more picks is better, but all those comp picks gave them ammunition to make a move and still have selections on draft day.

Seems like it. Next year, they have to go back to Lance (who they STILL don't know what they have in him) but without the Garoppolo backstop.

Rams' only significant picks of next year are a 2nd and 3rd, then a steep drop to the 6th round. I almost wish they would've gotten McCaffrey, I'm not sure that would be enough for them to right the ship and they'd be screwed with almost no draft picks and a huge bill next year for a RB.
Reminder: The Rams are the current Superbowl champions so, "...but draft picks" seems pretty silly as a comeback.
...cause the Browns are really tearing up the league with all if their 1st round picks over the last decade.
