We waited five years for Ackely, Smoak, MIller, Seager, Zunino, Franklin, Walker, Paxton, Montero to fill in with the understanding that high value veterans would mix with them. Well, here we are. I feel we need two more high value players and we are off. Not sure DJ Peterson is that player and I honestly would be very frustrated if the FO came out and said they were going to use young prospects (of which Seattle has a good number) to take us over the top...again.
I agree. Just sitting on our hands isn't going to work anymore. We've built up a good farm system over the last few years, only to see most of the assets waste away with injury or wasted potential. It's time for us to use some chips to sit at the big boy table.
No. Let's not mortgage our future now. These kids are the future of the M's. without the farm system the Mariners wouldn't be where they are right now. You build a dynasty through the farm system, not through Free Agency.
I'm not talking about trading them ALL.
Cano only has a couple years left of being a star player. Felix isn't getting any younger.
The team in in a win-now window and they are a couple players short of winning now. Trading a few minor leaguers from a system that is full of prospects for some guys who can contribute this year to try and get the M's over the top is not foolish. Sitting on our hands and letting Cano and Felix get older is. The money is spent on both of those guys already, so now the M's have to do what it takes to build around them. Building for the future isn't really on the table as much as it was before Cano was signed.
