Well I expect the first quarter to be alot of what we have seen lately. Big plays getting called back for phantom or just plain bad calls. The NFL seems to want parody and good teams steam rolling over bad teams projects the opposite. If you watch the flow of the games it seems pretty obvious the way the officials are calling games seemingly completely different from the first half to the second half. I also believe the NFL wants Seattle and the 9ers to be a real rivalry and that goes away if we get to far ahead of them in the standings.

Of the Niners games I have seen it doesn't appear they are doing the same. At least not to me. Now that could of course be bias but I try to be reasonable in judging but it also makes sense right now that if they league is pushing a rivalry (which is the best thing for ratings) the 9ers stomping teams right now is less important than dropping another game back and actually with us in the lead and them playing good it builds an atmosphere of excitement and potential to when we play them next at the Stick.

I don't think the NFL really cares who wins so much as they want to keep it close and yes this is the entertainment industry and the NFL is a billion dollar business so I do believe they dictate some of the officiating. Compare it to the scrub ref's who equally made boneheaded mistakes but it was obvious they were mistakes because they were so evenly distributed unlike how the official ref's mistakes almost always appear as if there is an agenda.

Hopefully I am wrong and we see a fair game called this week but if I am correct I think we will once again see officiating making a statement in the early goings of the game to make it appear the game is closer than it actually should be. I really do question if some of our ware and tear from recent games is coming from having to play full tilt all game every game instead getting off to a lead and coasting or changing the game plan. The only way we win those close ones is to pour it on late and that can take a toll both mentally and physically.

It would be nice if we had the type of following the Packers do. If one QUESTIONABLE call can get as much attention as the hail mary in the early part of last season did then we probably wouldn't have to deal with the officials and the NFL trying to hold us back early in games.

People understand that this post is about the TV commentating crew and not the officials, right?

Of course, the commenters throw the flags from their pressbox.
