Gotta let him walk. Too many reasons why it wouldn't make sense.

1. He had his whole rookie contract to prove that he's *the guy* and the best he could do is split carries with another RB.

2. No evidence that can handle the workload physically.

3. Sub-par receiving ability for an "elite" RB

4. The general history of RBs declining significantly during their 2nd contract, and the team simply not getting the player they paid for.

The Hawks can't be afraid to let players walk.

Exactly. While I get the concerns for how big the contract COULD be, this K9 is average and/or is easily replaceable attitude is just strange. TO ME. Then again, I've been on this for a long time. Pretty much done even talking about it at this point.

John's message to us fans has been along the lines of... 'we are evaluating Kennath's contribution to the team over the length of his contract'... which is French for... 'not just the last 3 or 4 games'.

Hence the difference between how the team evaluates his value going forward ($9M-$10M/year?)... and how some fans (and other teams) may be evaluating/determining his value/market ($12M-$15M/year?).

John will do what is best for the team imo.

IMO there's only one reason to not sign K9: some other team gives him a bag of $$ beyond what the Hawks find reasonable. He's still one of the best pure runners in the league and he's got a lot of tread left. That said, we don't know 1- what the team's price point is, 2- what other teams will offer, 3- what Walker wants to do. Possibly a contract could be structured to his liking (?)

One thing that bothers me if they pay Walker over say 10 mill is what happens with Charbs once his contract is up???

If Charbs was able to play in the Bowl game, I'm not too sure K9 would have gotten the MVP especially with having to share touches with Charbs.

Would they feel compelled to pay Charbonnet the same money?

Texans just traded for a RB, so they're out. I guess the Lions are going all-in on overpaying massively overrated Gibbs at some point.

I can't see Walker getting anything I wouldn't be happy to match, although I guess it just takes one team to do something crazy.

Yeah, we have to, it's about the only way we can justify, without any viable alternative, seeing one of the main cogs of our team let go. Which seems to be more and more what's going to happen.

I'm not on the "easily replaceable" train....I'm more on the "Is he readily available?" train. Ken Walker totally balled out when it mattered, running as hard as I've seen him run in his time with the team, lowering his shoulder and just flat out finishing guys. HOWEVER, there hasn't been a lot of that in his four years in the NFL.....even when he was on the field, he rarely ran with that sense of urgency. And we all know he had his challenges staying healthy in years 2 and 3. In totality, I'd love to see him back and I think he'd earn his keep if he did return, but I have a feeling he is going to get a contract that even the most ardent Walker supporter will balk at when the headline number comes out. 4 years/$62 million, or something like that would be my guess.

All valid points, and you can toss in the fact that he's a poor blocker when it comes to pass protection. K9 can do one thing very well and that's run the ball, and whilst hugely important, it can't overshadow his deficiencies. That he performed sublimely in the most criticial of moments last season was another big point in his favor, but you still have to weigh that in terms of expectations going forward. He is not an every-down RB, and his durability is in question.

In a scenario where we didn't have so many othe good players entering free agency, I'd be tempted to pay him, but in a world of limited resources, he is likely going to be the one we say goodbye to. See you again next decade, when we install you in the Ring of Honor. The only question is what on earth do we do for a RB in the meantime...

IF Charbs wasn't likely out until maybe November? Can't just grab whoever and think your running game would be fine. I would love to be wrong, but I doubt it.

Stupid Money teams, Cowboys, Vikings, Panthers, Dolphins, immediatly off the top of my head.

- Vikings are approximately $45.5 million over the salary cap, the second-worst situation in the NFL so I doubt they'll be able to afford Walker. Plus they had just fired their GM so their situation is in flux.

- Panthers have Chuba Hubbard and Etienne still if they lose Dowdle.

- Dolphins have a bunch of RBs already so they'd probably be looking to add depth instead of Walker

- Cowboys have Javonte Williams who is the Projected RB1 who signed an extension from what I hear through 2028.


From what I'm hearing, the New York Giants, Titans, and Broncos are strong players for K9.

Out of those 3, the Broncos have the most promise as far as making the playoffs in the AFC go so if they got the cash (and it's too rich for JS), then K9 will most likely head there as I doubt he'd want to be in a rebuilding situation (again) with the Giants or Titans.
