Can't blame a guy for trying to get that bag. However, he is a massive part of a SB team, his teammates clearly love him, etc.
Def. a huge decision on his part. If Charbs wasn't out until probably mid-season, it would be a lot easier to let the guy go.
Not that Charbs is or ever will be a true #1, but that one two punch was very effective.
Agreed, but Charbs won't be part of our offense for most of this season, so you've got to find another dynamic #1 running back AND a downhill guy. Looking forward to see what JS comes up with.

Not happy at all about it, but it's starting to feel more and more like we're gonna lose our K9. John isn't going to pay a RB $13-14 mil, but if anyone can find a diamond in the rough, it's John.
I get the feeling that's what it's going to come down to. None of the remaining FAs particularly blows up my skirt, maybe as a 1 yr rental? And this for sure doesn't seem like the year to spend a #1/2 on an RB. Guess we'll see what JS can pull out of his hat.

If he leaves, it's going to be embarrassing watching Seahawks fans rooting for him to fail to validate the front office's decision to not pay him.

This ^

And sadly, this happens a LOT with Hawks fans. Ridiculous.
Can't pay everyone. It's just not reality. SB winning teams lose players, ALL THE TIME.

I want what's best for Walker AND for the Seahawks. But when you get down to the nitty gtitty my real allegience is to the Seahawks. If he feels the same way I do he will balance things out and stick with what we offer. If he buys into the bird in the bush idea we will have to make do. We have a RB guy (and maybe more than 1) on the PC I really like.

He’s going to the Giants. Schneider hates to extend running backs unless you’re Marshawn. I’m good with Charbonnet and whoever they add in the draft and free agency. Wonder if the Jets placed the ft on Hall

The Giants could offer a lot of money but I wonder if the Broncos end up with him?

Just wondering/spitballing here, but is there a way for them to structure a deal that pays him $14mill per year over, say 4 years that keeps his cap number under $12 mil over the first couple of years? Seems to me that JS and the bean counters could do it.

Yeah, anything over 10 or 11 per, move on. Again, can't blame a guy for wanting the biggest contract he can get. IF that's what he's looking for. And why wouldn't he be?
That being said, I've spent the last few years hearing people often acting like the dude is average, hurt every game, can't do this, can't do that, blah blah blah.

So, some will get their wish. Though I can't imagine anyone being happy if they lose K9.
And don't twist it, I do NOT want them paying a RB 12 or more mil a year. Nope.
Agreed. I love K9…Not knocking anyone but, I tend to think a little more highly of him (same vibes @SoulfishHawk has) than a lot of folks here.

But…$12M+ is too much for a position that can be supplemented ‘easier’ than most others. RBs are a dime a dozen…especially when you had a guy sharing half the snaps (albeit, recovering now).

Damn…K9’s gone yall. Unless he takes a hometown discount. Maybe someone close to him explains the value of sharing snaps…long shot of this happening.

I've pretty much accepted that we're losing a damn good RB. Sucks, but it's the crappy part of sports.
Sometimes a guy just prices himself out in free agency. I hope to be shocked and he stays, but at this point, I just don't see it.
One thing I DO see though, wherever he goes, I suspect they'll appreciate him a lot more than some in Seattle have.

He's missed 8 games his entire career. The "he's always hurt" tag seems vastly overstated. Look around the league, MOST RB's miss games. Not some, MOST. Look at McCaffrey and Henry. Incredible HOF level RB's. Both have missed a lot of games.

I’ve seen that as well.

I kind of ‘get it’. We’ve been spoiled with some great backs over the years…

So, we very well may go into 2026 with no running back room. Never thought that could or would happen just after winning a SB.

Charbonnet might not play at all in 2026. Nobody can guarantee that he will. Even if he does, it will likely be late and it’s anyone’s guess what his burst and leg drive will initially be. Can’t count on this.

Draft? With 3 late round draft picks (plus a 6th rounder), and a lousy running back draft there isn’t any bright spot here.

Free agency. Can you really get anyone that makes it smart to save a relatively small amount of money that you could otherwise pay to K9? It’s wishful thinking.

Should tag Walker and figure it out over the course of the next year. The Hawks have the money. There is no need for a SB winner to go into next year with no clear idea of how they can have a great running game.

Good running backs are not a dime a dozen and if you think that can work, it would be nice to at least have some other running backs on your roster who you know can contribute. Hope is not a strategy.

Good point, and I would think that "sharing snaps" and "another ring" would factor into his decision.

I get the sense that some here use the term "hometown discount" to mean not getting the highest contract amount you can possibly get, from whatever team is willing to pay it. So to clarify, did Tom Brady take the "hometown discount", or did he take the "I want more Super Bowl rings" discount to enable his team to keep winning?

To me "hometown discount" is more like a local hero staying with a not-so-great team, at lower pay, because of his loyalty to the area and fans. Lots of professional athletes have done that - baseball comes to mind. I can't actually think of any NFL players who have done that, but that's not what K9 or JSN are having to consider.

Obviously, each of these guys we're discussing has to decide whether it's worth it to leave a solid job for one that is more questionable but pays more. For some of our players it won't be worth changing teams - if money was 100% of the equation for every star, there would be no dynasties, and very few repeat great teams.

I hope McIntosh's rehab is on schedule. He actually looked good in limited carries in '24 when our running game was booty under Grubb. And I'm looking forward to the 90 targets, zero drops type of hands he showed at Georgia.
