I don't know about anyone else but his play calling sucked as$.
Take aways from today...Woolen got beat bad by an AI generated TE. Spoon got beat bad on that deep ball. K9 should make way for Charb. Offensive play calling on a couple series was absolutely mind boogling. Defence gonna be too 10. Offence needs to catch up.

Our D is not going to be top 10 if they can't do a better job getting off the field on 3rd and 4th downs. The 9ers converted 9 of 16 3rd and 4th downs today. A big part of that was because they were constantly in 3rd and short because they were generally very successful on 1st down.

Yes, the offense bears a share of the blame for the lopsided time of possession, but so does the defense. The 9ers were 5 for 8 on 3rd downs in the 1st half. Our D gave up a lot of long sustained drives today. Yes, they did a good job limiting the 9ers scoring, but giving up over 380 yards and allowing a conversion rate well over 50% on 3rd and 4th downs are not the hallmarks of a top 10 D.

Hawk fans will never be satisfied with an OC. Don't believe me, let me know the last OC you liked.

Even when we won the SB and had those dominant teams with RW, everyone wanted DB gone. Then they didn't like Shotty. Then didn't like Waldron. Then they didn't like Grubb. Now after one game they don't like Kubiak.

This is why I barely post here, a ton of knee jerk reactions in here.

Schotty was great.

If the rest were any good, they'd still have jobs as OCs, so the disgruntledness is warranted.

Fact is, we could have had Chip Kelly, but our HC, traumatized by an OC who did what he wanted last year, opted for the young, unproven guy in large part because he would be more likely to toe the line. Problem is, when the line is broken, he isn't good enough to fix it.

Hey Hawk-Lock, I don't think we ever ran into each other like this but I wanted to touch base on what you said. The OC's in this situation that you used is eerily similar to the conversation of addressing the OLine over the years. IE, people think they scrape the bottom of the barrel and get cute with their picks when it more or less comes down to the scouting/recruiting. I personally liked each OC until they either didn't OR COULDN'T change the things that were bringing this team down as opposed to getting better at their jobs (Once again, like the OL).

People would get hyped (or not, depending on who it was) and then we'd be severely disappointed because it didn't work out based on the above mentioned criteria (didn't or couldn't get better), and with that comes the feeling of "Same old song" as mentioned in a different board. These feelings are very valid because a lot of us are tired of "good enough" and we want better for our team. Sometimes "good enough" isn't good at all considering the fact that this is the NFL, the top of the mountain, and people are paid very well for their jobs so it should yield better results. Just my opinion.

I have to say. It feels like Waldron 2.0 here.

And by that I mean: A whole bunch of talk about what we are GOING to do in the offseason. With Waldron it was the "You're not going to know whether it's pass or run by just the formation. We're going to use the TE group to mask our intentions and confuse opponents..... etc etc etc.". Then to just NOT do that during the season.

I thought we would be running multiple depth crossing routes with the receiving group. I thought we were going to be USING the fullback on running plays. I thought we were going to be doing a whole bunch of stuff that was talked up for the past few months.

And then to really have NONE of it, and watch K9 skat around for losses - was really just frustrating beyond belief. I thought we learned our lessons from Waldron and Grubb and would stop shooting ourselves in the foot. Apparently not.

Not impressed. In fact, probably tuning out for a couple weeks and checking back in around game 4. I can't watch the crap that was yesterday - particularly when we've seen them do it properly in a flash in preseason, and then just sit around waiting for all the shit we know can be done, but isn't.

Without the D's couple turnovers yesterday (despite Woolen's cut-worthy performance) - that would have been a slaughter - and by rights, should have been.

Barf.

What gets me is, Little shanny had all his players hurt and had ways to do more with less. And Kubiak had his full squad and looked bad. I don't buy the training wheels thing on Darnold. Good offensive minds can find ways to get their plays in.

Not too worried about Darnold. 80 yds/game rushing is about half of what we should be getting. But of course, you have to call the run plays. 🤷‍♂️
