K9. Saddle up and pay or not?

I wish it was that easy. It just isn't. No matter how much people want to convince themselves of it........

I'll proudly crow up if some random RB has the same production. I just won't spend even 5 minutes looking up recipes.
Sadly, if they let K9 go, I'll end up just being right, again.

I know it's hard usually being right, but that's a burden you must bear.
It's not that Walker isn't liked, he is a very likeable guy and most 12's love him.
People just don't want to overpay him or rely on his running style as a feature back.
I favor having the nerve & patience to let the market determine his next team & price, that might be us.
We just got out of cap hell and have a lot of irons in the current fire. Coming off a Super Bowl win, I'd prefer to operate from a position of strength opposed to throwing $ around in desperation to keep things rolling.

RB is one of the easiest roles to plug and play. Some of the posters saying that K9 is irreplaceable are the same people that were gnashing teeth he would bounce the ball outside and miss obvious holes.

We aren’t going to have the same offense either, so the continuity argument doesn’t hold much weight either.

They've been trying to replace the void Lynch left for a number of years....without success. Remember Eddie Lacy, Thomas Rawls, and Chris Carson? Not saying KW9 is Lynch but he's still a very good running back and on the right side of 30 (age-wise) too.

You do realize that during the Lynch era, Seattle spent quite a bit more on the line, yes? During our Super Bowl runs, we had one of the more pricey lines in the league. Okung was a solid pro bowl level OT, Unger was one of the leagues best centers, carpenter was a road grater, Breno was a bad pass blocker, but he made up for it by being a nasty run blocker with a mean streak.

That line was better than anything any of that aforementioned backs had. Pair that with Lynch’s special talent and an athletic QB that was one of the first to run the read option prominently and you have a recipe for a strong run game.

What I’m getting at here is a strong line is more far more important and a much bigger predictor of a running backs success than vise versa.

Isn’t it funny how Justin Forsett leaves the Hawks, goes to Baltimore and gets a 1000 yard season and a pro bowl birth? The reason? The line play over in Baltimore.

You also mentioned Chris Carson. He was a 7th round draft pick, and he was also arguably better as a player than K9 was. He had several 1k seasons and while he didn’t have crazy long runs, he’d always gash defenses for consistent yardage. Really hard player to bring down, and he played under worse lines than K9 has.

K9 isn’t an irreplaceable talent, id rather we not spend money on him.

Also, the guy has missed 9 games over four years despite being more limited on carries. That is concerning.

K9 also is not the type of guy to consistently churn out yards. He’s content to bounce things to the outside to create a play. His vision inside is inconsistent.

We Seahawk fans really get attached to players that aren’t all that.

I totally believe people get too attached and overvalue .. Pete used to do the same
after our last little run and look what happened.
I trust JS to make the correct moves and make us a stronger team overall.

Top tier running backs don't need to split carries to make it through a season. Top tier running backs top 4.8 YPC. Top tier running backs don't need four years of coaching to figure out you can't dance backward behind the line.

I agree wholeheartedly with these points. He's def got 2X the East/West yards than he has North.

I will say ONE thing - in the back 1/2 of the season, I saw alot of his jump cuts that looked a WHOLE lot like Lynch.

Top teir running backs that carry 30 times a game have short careers typically, 1 - 2 punch we get a longer shelf life.

If we let K9 walk, I’m going to assume we expect Charbs to be gtg (at some point) and there’s a few guys already in the stable that we’re thinking will do some damage.

If that’s the case, I’m really anxious to see KMac. That cat doesn’t have eye popping numbers but gawtdamn…5.5 YPC? Small sample size …yes but…

But damn I’d hate to lose K9. I’ll be happy for him if he pulls Saquon type numbers but…he’s the best back we have and one of the best in the league.
