Letting him go would be a huge mistake. And not just because I've always been a fan of the guy. He's a damn good back with a lot of tread on those tires. He can do it all as a back, he comes up big in big games. Not sure what else he needs to prove.
Get it done.

I’ve heard rumor that we’re not tagging him.

That’s doing right by him…letting him explore. But, I can see K9 re-signing for less than what the tag would cost.

I love K9…but, if I’m another team wanting to overspend on a RB, I’d consider the guys availability through his career thus far.

Having a 1-2 punch is such an advantage. Not just for the team either…that set-up can extend a RBs career. Of course, any agent is going to want the $$$ now. They’re thinking guaranteed $$$ in case of injury and/or a performance drop off.

3 years at $18M is less than 5 years at $13M….arbitrary numbers here but, that’s something to the effect I would be thinking if I’m K9.

Thus….the reason I’m also not an agent. I’d likely go broke trying to use logic.

*illiterate - how to sound dumb when typing this in chunks during a work meeting. My bad…

Pay him. As was mentioned above, with Charbonnet suffering a major knee injury and that we don't have much draft capital in addition to the draft not being flush with RB's, we don't have a lot of options.

Besides, he seems like a good guy to have in the locker room.

He is one of the leaders of this team. He leads quietly, but dude is a damn good RB.
He elevates his game in big games. He has a LOT of tread on those tires. Not sure what else he needs to do. Cap went way up, we have 70 plus mil to spend. Get it done. This is a run first team, imo. We have our RB.

Becomes less of a good guy if he takes a ton of cap. Big running back deals are almost always a mistake, but as mentioned before other circumstances might make the mistake a necessity.

And I know this gets people all bent out of shape, but K9 is absolutely a better RB than Charbs. The team is better with BOTH of them, but that's not really an option until at least mid-season 2026.
I flipped flopped early on because K9 was doing that dancing shit.

But, totally agree. Love CharBone but, K9 is definitely the better back. Zach’s also coming off injury so…there’s that whole thing.

Id absolutely tag him if we don't come to terms on a deal. He's absolutely worth it for a season.
Rumor is…JS doesn’t want to do that. There’s potential he signs for lower than what the tag would cost. But, there’s always that team that will unload the Brinks truck for him as well. Remember Shaq and Jacksonville?

I’m with you though..JS hasn’t done this a lot (I read maybe twice since being in Seattle), but I’d tag him in a heartbeat. Especially with Charb coming off of injury.

Yeah, I heard that rumor. I'm hoping they're at least open to it, but I understand why they'd want to avoid it until it's necessary.

It's true he's only used the tag twice: Mare and Clark, and Clark was immediately traded.

I’d assume players respect JS for not wanting to put them in that position (being tagged).

I’m hoping that we hit him with a 4 year contract that pays less per year (than another team will offer for 3). Throw in RB applicable ‘guarantees’ and he stays home.

Could Charb handle being #1? I’m sure he could…but, coming off of injury brings a whole new dimension.

I much prefer our 1-2 punch set-up.

He knows the price tag. Eleven million per year and not a dime more. If his agent can get him more than that then cya. Thanks for your services. Personally, my max would come in at ten million per year, but I think the staff wants him back more than I do. Primarily because he is humble, cordial, and appreciative. Indeed, there isn't a single free agent running back that I would pay more than Walker at 10 mil per. Not Breece Hall, nor Travis Etienne jr., nor Javonte Williams, or Rico Dowdle. Walker is a better pure runner than the whole lot of them. The bottom line is that finding a rookie replacement for a back that isn't proficient with pass protection may be the easiest rookie transformation for any given position in the NFL. They can find a reliable, cheap alternative in the draft (I like Kaelon Black projected in the fifth round), and further, I have not given up on Jacardia Wright either.

Talking heads think he gets tagged if they can't come to an agreement before. RB is such a challenging position for contracts. Top tier demand big $$, but have a monster rate of injury. Should be an exciting offseason for sure.

Before Charbonnet's injury, I was okay letting him go, but for many of the reasons cited here, I think they need to get him back. My only real issue with K9 is that he, to me, is not a complete back. His blocking and receiving skills are not that great. I am with others that think 10-11 mil is ceiling.
