John Carlson play...

I'm sure a lot of you remember this play vs. New Orleans during the Wild Card game a few years back. We were on about the four yard line in an goaline iso formation. Hass faked the stretch right to Beast Mode, then turned right around and threw a TD to a wide open Carlson.

The reason Carlson was so wide open was because when Hass was faking the stretch rIght, Carlson pretended to to chop block a devensive end. He laid there for a short time, then jumped up and backed up into the endzone for an easy six.

I've always wondered why Pete doesn't call this play anymore? It seems like a creative play that could come handy agaisnt an undisclipined Redskins D. Anyone know why he hasn't used this play?

it's rare in the League, professionals aren't supposed to fall for that kind of silliness. but it worked so who knows!

The play was called...

"Snoozy"

Hass mentioned it during an interview some time later.

Would be fun to see again.

It only worked because Carlson was such a terrible blocker that he usually spent a lot of time on the ground. We would need someone to establish an entire season of inept blocking to sell the fake.

I used to see this play work all the time in college. Now when TE's go down, the guy typically holds them down until the QB commits on whether he's really bootlegging and running, or if he's going to pass then they release and drop back in coverage. It used to work well (and still does in college) because it depends on the man the TE is chip blocking to fall for the fact that his man is out of the play and he can go help out elsewhere.

I saw it used a few times in college this year and it still works if a defense isn't disciplined enough. I remember seeing the Packers use it back in the Mark Chmura days a couple of times to great effect for short TD's.

We actually tried it this season w/ McCoy...I believe against the 49ers at home.
