Seriously, i read .NET every day, I watched all the seahawks games i could (i missed @niners, vs pats and vs packers) but i have never even HEARD of Jason Jones. I do remember that there was some guy in our passrush that someone mentioned that i had never heard of and thought "who?" and then today someone mentioned him in the atlanta game thread and i was like "AAAAH that is the guy". Did he get injured early / was he any good? Did we sign this guy recently? I mean i know who SCRUGGS is ffs ;)

He got injured around mid season, missed maybe 2 games? then came back and eventually got hurt more and was put on IR about 2/3 of the way into the season.

He's kind of a hybrid DT/DE. He played a lot of Tackle for us, even though he's described most places as an End. He doesn't show up a lot on the stats page, but when he's out there, the guys around him seem to create more stats. He also got high praise from both Bradley and Carroll during the season. I kind of think of him as a poor man's Justin Smith. You don't really know he's there as a fan, because he doesn't make the big plays, but his play opens up other players to make the big plays. Just look at Aldon Smith's stats with the Niners when Justin was out...they were almost nothing.

Smith had been signed to a one-year deal, hoping to show his worth to earn the big contract this offseason, but his injury won't help him in this regard. When healthy is a definite positive influence on our defense.

We literally look like two different defenses if you watch the first few games. Watch the Green bay game, it's frustrating to think we didn't have him, I think we're in the SB with both him and Clemons.

He is good when healthy. He gets a decent push , which we really need. I hope we get him back for at least depth.

Jason jones is a great pass rush specialist at three tech; drove a lot of qb's back into the path of an oncoming Chris Clemons. He had some unfortunate injury problems though. If we don't address the 3 tech position in FA or the draft, i'd be happy to have a healthy JJ back again next year.

Seattle wants him back, but they've also said they need to add pass rushers (in the plural form). I think that kind of sums it up perfectly. Jones was a nice player last year, and we should try to keep him, but he's not the savior this defense needs.

It's going to be about the money if he can show he's healthy.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back if he's healthy. I don't think he's going to get along deal regardless of his health and he'll be cheaper than he was last year.

I agree with Canhawk, Jones adds a solid passes rush dimension to the team.

I know him 'cause he played ok when he was in; and my buddy's bro went to EMU so I got texts from MI every week until he went down...
I thought he did ok, wouldn't mind keeping him around...if he can make the team.

Could be way wrong but it seemed to me that Irvin was much more effective when Jones was in

Someone feel free to challenge me if the numbers don't corroborate that :p

Jones is quick, tall enough to shut down pass lanes, and does get decent push, although with him, it's more about being slippery and getting penetration. He's quick enough to run stuns with the DE and still get good pressure from the outside, but when Tennessee moved him from 3 Tech to DE, his play suffered. He's just not quite quick enough to survive on the outside. I also think he's underrated against the run.

I don't know how much he's going to cost. He made a big impact on this defense, but it didn't really show up in his individual stats; he might be more important to this defense than another scheme. I also think the glut of high end 3 tech talent in the draft will hurt his FA price; the depth of this draft right now is hurting free agency in general.
