Brilliant block on the first Lynch touchdown.

No major errors in pass protection.

Solid B+

He did have that first quarter gaffe where he got beaten like a downtrodden housewife and had to hold to keep Wilson alive. After that, he seemed to improve.

He's one-dimensional like Sweezy. It might be a rough ride at times. At the very least, he's good enough to hold the job until we find someone better.

And, you gots to understand, I have my own theories on things. I read things, sometimes too much, but sometimes just right. I've learned that these lil theories of mine turn out right more often than not, so I'm not shy about putting them out there.

That's not to say I'm right, not at all. But, I've learned I need to trust my gut on these things. Even though we're all douchbag, know-nothing's here.

Welcome, btw. You seem somewhat new, so welcome. You're adding stuff...even wrong you're adding stuff. So, thanks!

We were needy at T when we drafted him in a crappy draft spot in a crappy O-Line draft year....whew !!

So?...Let the guy play at G in the NFL. He is better suited to it from what I have seen so far in his brief career.

Cable likes versatility in his O-Line as injuries happen. Moffit was a guard, but also an emergency center if need be. McQ has played every position save Center.
Is it not possible that they draft a player with two possible scenarios in mind? Especially when they're using a pick they were unable to trade?
More often than not, you need to take what the draft gives you. They made their decision. It didn't work out as expected.

Absolutely, and I think that Carpenter was one of those players, as was Irvin. But the point is that the initial plan was to play Carpenter at tackle, which we did. He was not drafted as a guard who could play tackle if needed, which seems to be the argument here.

I'm not sure I agree with your 'take what the draft gives you' statement, at least not as it applies to a first round pick and not as it applies to a rebuilding team, which we were in 2011.

I also agree that we were trying to trade out of the pick. As I recall, there was a very long pause before we finally made our selection known. But I don't see how that has anything to do with what the intent of drafting Carpenter was.

Hey, thanks a lot, guy! I like a healthy debate so long as it's kept civil and that at the end of the day, we all realize that we're all part of the same brotherhood, that of the 12th man.

As Russell Wilson would say...."Go, Hawks!"

During the game I was really down on Carp for the critical penalties that stopped or critically slowed drives. After I got to watch the game again he did not play badly, actually he wasn't as bad as I thought and I left off thinking my earlier impressions were wrong. He was actually not bad save for the penalties and I still didn't see his hold despite looking at the play several times, I thought the hold might have been on McQ and not Carp. I'm still dubious about his ability to pass protect at a high level but he sure can move the pile as a run blocker. It's hard to know whether he is a fit for our O b/c he has never been in shape and needs to run better than he does at present. I don't know if he will work himself into shape by the end of the season if he continues at LG after Okung returns. It may be dependent upon how his knee responds but if he isn't moving better by then I'd agree with those who think he doesn't fit our O as well as another more athletic big physical guy could fit. If he's moving better and starts to show some pass pro improvement I'd counsel patience as he gets in better shape. Somehow though I just think he's too slow both mentally and physically even though he's a s strong as an ox. He does sometime flash dominating ability between his WTF moments

Does it matter if he was drafted as a G or a T? I think he was drafted b/c he was a big strong potentially versatile player with some legit potential upside who had been very very healthy through college and who had shown ability to pass pro. I suppose he was likely over drafted and taken a round or more early but I 'm not sure he was the player the Hawks really wanted in the 1st rd in that draft anyways and they needed to settle on a player that may help going forward. At this point technically he's sure not much more seasoned than an end of his 1st season rookie despite 3 years in the league now due to his awful injury history as a pro. Maybe with a bit more seasoning he will begin to display his ability to dominate on a more regular basis. watching him is frustrating as he alternates between being really good and then really awful. I'd like to see him more consistently good than so far.

I love the idea of a healthy Carp and a healthy Okung in the LT/LG combo. just run to the left all day. that man is strong but great googly moogly is he immobile. defenders don't need to rush but run around the man and he won't move not one step. i'll watch him a little more closely but he is coming along slower than I figured for pass protection.
