How would you grade his play against the titans..

A+ being the highest.

I would grade him a D. He was unimpressive to me.

the saddest thing about scoping Carp during any game is that in any given series, you will see EVERYTHING he is capable of. Absolute road grader on one play. Swing and a complete (and I mean absolutely no contact) miss on his next block. Then a heck of a pass block standing the guy straight up or putting him down, followed by a complete blow by, barely even making contact with the guy he needs to block. SO frustrating. RW appreciates his effort, no doubt, but I can tell you without any significant stretch, he trusts him about as far as he can throw him. I wouldnt mind seeing a couple off season trades for some blue collar, nothin' flashy type of lineman. Even a consistently mediocre lineman is better than one with potential to be an all star if he cant figure it out. I know that OL consistency is the penultimate, but even mediocre consistency to me is better for RW. He would know what to expect more on each play and may trust his guys enough to take an extra less frantic peek and hit that open receiver he is missing here and there. A little Oline faith goes a LONG way in a QB's success IMHO. Right now, due to Oline injuries, he is this teams success unfortunately. Carp is just a big body doing some things right, some times, and is some times the best player on our line, and some times the best player for the other team.

I am laid up from shoulder surgery and have a good couple days of bed rest. I will spend the day tomorrow and highlight Carp just because I get so frustrated watching him, that I should forget about the shoulder pain :) I will let ya know what jumps out at me for this game with him in particular.

He needs Okung back badly, Okung's presence alone settles him down.

McQuistan is garbage as a LT.

Brilliant block on the first Lynch touchdown.

No major errors in pass protection.

He lacks so much athletically its comical. Watching him pull, or block down field 75% of the time is comical. In fact most of the time he looks lost or like an old grey 35+ guy who is trying his best to stay in the league.

But I will end this on a positive. He matches up with Justin Smith aka "Cowboy" of the 49ers very well. He played so good against the 49ers in a head to head with cowboy he made me proud for a day. Maybe its because they are so similar and both have farm boy strength, but he handles Justin Smith very very very well.

I know one thing. With such a leaky interior OL, there is no way any of our past QBs would be as productive as Wilson. No doubt in my mind.

Man that can't happen soon enough. Carp two false starts, one holding penalty.

Even worse, the holding penalty wiped out what would have been a third down conversion, and the first false start penalty forced Seattle to burn it's final timeout of the first half, setting in motion the comedy of errors that led to the blown FG and Tennessee's lone touchdown.

Are we watching the same game...? Dude looks lost out there and had 2-3 penalties on him.

Give me specifics then. Where did he look lost?

His block earned the first TD.

So much hope, so little progress thus far.

He plays like an overweight rookie that may develop into a respectable guard... John and Pete over-drafted him.

I don't see that perception changing in the future... speaking personally.

I am proud of him for staying healthy this year. I will give him that. I lost 2 football seasons in high school to a fractured spine and a broken ankle that required surgery.

Being healthy and playing at an all-conference level and playing in a state championship my senior year was my reward for enduring what seemed like endless rehab at the time.

I'm not thrilled by his performance , but I am definitely pulling for the guy.

I think you however are making the assumption that he is the problem by singling him out. He is not

In the simplest form the zone blocking scheme blocks towards the center and bunches things up in the middle. What is happening is they are overloading the left side of our OL

McQ cannot block any outside pass rusher. I can't say that strongly enough. He is is taking them very wide when he can as he seems not strong enough 1-1. What Okung would do much of the time;" take on the end 1-1 or even move them to the center. Only the best he would have to take wide and was a well deserved all pro.

What we are left with is McQ getting run over or collapsed upon. The TE helps; that has been the plan as of late. Carp most of the time takes his man 1-1 and moves them to the center. Unger the great asset , helps...ideally.

The reality is Carp is left with a rush on his right and his left. Who does he take? Unger can help to his right or left as they are not bothering to rush right over him. He is an All Pro as well. If he helps Sweezy, Carp is an island. This is I am afraid is what is causing the problems when I watch it.

We need Russell back.

It was Cable that wanted him and Moffitt so bad. Perhaps we should start looking at how good a judge of O-Line talent that Cable really is for this team. I for one am starting to doubt that he really is the right guy for our O-Line coaching duties. If we keep struggling even after the regulars are back the later part of the season I would hope that PC looks closely at his offensive coaches this off season to see if changes are needed.

Carpenter played a rapidly improving game.

Seriously, does everyone on hear just repeat after Dierdorf?

His pass pro was solid, his run blocking was really good, he held once, got called for a false start for moving his hand a tiny bit, and the 2nd false start, I still haven't figured out who moved, but it wasn't Carpenter.

By the end of the game, Titans were done with wanting any more of Carpenter, and he didn't look like the exertion was going to kill him, so his conditioning seems to be improving.
