100% agreed!!!!!hawker84":3bosqxut said:MRob is a must at fullback this season IMO, not just his blocking and recieving out of the backfield, but his leadership on and off the field is irreplacable at this point. I can't see him going anywhere this season.

Robinson is way too critical to our running game. And I disagree with how casually Hawkblogger dismisses Robinson's leadership. You worry about cap decisions AFTER the Super Bowl run season. There's no reason to release one of your critical players to save cap dollars right before the season.
You also don't plug in unproven "pre-season heroes" like Coleman or Ware, neither of whom have played a down in a regular season NFL game and both of whom are experiments at FB.
Hawkblogger has a tendency to get a little holier-than-thou and reckless at times.

Everyone is so keen on cutting players now to make cap space to carry over to next season so we can resign Sherman, Wilson, Tate and whomever else
That sounds all good and well, but what if (god forbid) one of those three was to suffer an unfortunate incident such as that which happened to Dustin Keller. You've cut a quality veteran player and all of a sudden you've got absolutely nothing to show for it but useless cap space. Great.
So yeah, Robinson is the 3rd highest paid fullback in the league. You expect that when you've got the 3rd best running game in the league (going by yards gained last year).

The problem is that we do have a lot of big contracts coming and will need to be proactive if we are going to keep those guys. You mention what would happen if one of our upcoming big money guys gets hurt, but turn it around and ask yourself what happens if they don't? What if we lose out on a Sherman or an Okung because we didn't clear out enough cap room to re-sign them? Even if your scenario, the extra cap space would be beneficial in helping Seattle bring in a replacement, whether it's a free agent Band-Aid or a longer term prospect. Cap space is never "useless."
Let me be clear that I'm not advocating cutting Robinson this year. I think the damage done to the locker room but cutting a guy like Rob (and doing so this late when he would have a hard time finding another job) outweighs the cap savings. This year. I think he is gone next year simply because we won't have a choice, and I think there are going to be some particular painful cuts over the next few seasons as our slew of big contract extensions come due.
So no, I don't believe Robinson will or should be cut this year. But I hope the team is at least thinking about it, because the benefit to the salary cap should not be ignored, and this front office had better be getting ready for the hard decisions they will have to make this year and next.
I know how you feel. We said the same thing. He was easily one of the fan's favorites, and we were pretty shocked to see Harbaugh let him walk.hawker84":24mnn3cg said:MRob is a must at fullback this season IMO, not just his blocking and recieving out of the backfield, but his leadership on and off the field is irreplacable at this point.
