Is keap really better than Boykin?

I think with the circus that would follow Kaep it is safe to assume that Boykin would have the advantage of a less stressful situation. I've tried to watch Kaepernick with an open mind and give him a fair shake talent wise but I can never bring myself to seriously see him being a QB I would want leading my team. He just seems to look lost sometimes. The only thing in his favor at the moment is experience in big games. That is a big thing.
Boykin, on the other hand, hasn't had a chance to show how good he can be. He looked pretty good last night but it is preseason so that says nothing.

I would take Kaepernick if I needed to win a game immediately but I would take the chance with Boykin in a long term situation.

Kaep might get the nod when it comes to experience, reading defenses, etc.........but even that's a stretch argument.

But when you add in the distraction/backlash factor AND you'd have to pay him way more than 500k per year, it's not even a debate for me.

And memo to Pete: Please, if Wilson gets hurt the way he was last year, let our backup (whomever it may be) play a game or two and let our defense and run game keep us in those games to let Wilson heal. I'd rather lose 2 games then watch a hobbled Wilson all season long.

This :ditto: This is not fantasy football. The team can't afford to pay two starting caliber QBs. We'd lose too much in other areas of the game if we did. Meanwhile, Boykin is bolstering his strength as a tradeable commodity.

Also agree on the injury message. Is Russell's consecutive games streak worth that much?

Yes he is. He has proven he can take his team to the playoffs and win. Boykin has not thus far.

He took a team to the playoffs years ago. Doesn't mean he can do it now. He has regressed significantly since then.

Trent Dilfer took a team to the Super Bowl and won it years ago. By your logic, he must be better than Boykin right now.

Yep, and Kaep can deny all the rumors he wants about not demanding a bigger contract back in the spring from teams like the Hawks who were interested in him..........but we know Pete, if he could have gotten Kaep for 500K? He's be here.

I'm so sick of this crap. The o line played pretty well tonight. Why don't you wait and see how they play before you slam them like this?

Fwiw The analysts on the NFL network said our line was awful in both pass pro and run blocking and then showed plays backing up that assessment.

I watched that and didn't take that from it at all. The evaluation was carry over from last year IMO, and they did not even have enough time to review game tape well enough for proper evaluation.

I could show you 4 clips of crappy oline play from the best NFL oline....every single week in the NFL.

Pocic is both a technician and a punisher. Guy might be the best linemen drafted in the Cable era (I know not the greatest feat). If Pocic continues to grow and he should, it wouldn't have bothered me at all if he was the first pick of our draft. He made his presence known and he made it look easy... Like no issues adjusting or adapting. He definitely has more work to put in at tackle. But he looked like a future All-Pro at Center.

I know each was a bit late and could get us a flag in a real game, but Iiked it when Pocic shoved his guy to the ground. He was mauling.

The biggest knock in my mind. Boykin's salary cap hit in 2017: $545K. Vet minimum for Kaep (6 years service): $775K. I don't think that Kaep is good enough to take us to the Superb Owl if Russell goes down, so why not save the $230K.

Boykin has done this against backups, and was bailed out numerous times by Williams. He played a good game, but not great. And that one pick he threw was ridiculous.

Actually a better league for Kaep would be CFL. He could lock onto his receiver and it would not really matter as they have the option of moving 3 or 4 receivers at the same time. He could look into the crowd, wave at his besty, and then throw to his primary receiver. I watched some CFL a few weeks ago on a night off and it was interesting.
