Greg laughs at the All-22. He watches game film from spy satellites with thermal imaging.

When you have less than three seconds in the pocket, its first read, then scramble. Unless someone breaks open right in front of him while he's scrambling, the best option is to use your legs to move the chains. This is what RW does better than any QB in the league. If he had more time to go through his reads, he'd hit some of the wide open WRs that I've seen as well. That being said, he shouldn't have thrown to Rice instead of the WR in front of Rice in the Colts game and I'm sure you and I, and definitely RW sees several other plays where receivers were open down field that should have been thrown to. But, he protects the ball, moves the chains with his feet, and is deadly accurate when he has time. I'd take that all day long.
Good points, but I saw on multiple occasions on Sunday RW rolling right,
not running down field but was actively looking for somebody to throw to and
had open recievers in his line of sight on the same side of the field. He made a concious decision to not throw to them and take off running or throw it away. After marinating on it for a little while, the only reasonable explanation for it is that he decided for whatever reason the throw was too risky and didn't want to risk a turn over.
...and I'm okay with that.
There will eventually come a time when we're
down in games and are rallying to come back when we'll need Russell to save the day with his arm. When that time comes, I'm sure he will make those throws and a potential turn over will be worth the risk in the name of converting first downs because a W hangs in the ballance, but playing with a lead (or tied or down by a FG mid game) it's just not our MO to put the game in Russell's hands like that. We pound the rock and play great defense. We'll take a shot at the explosive back breaking play IF it's there, but if it's not I don't think we're going to see Russell force it. If we keep pounding the rock and playing great defense, we'll be pounding nails into opponents coffins by the 4th quarter.
