Is it really the WR's?

Another observation or so about especially the second pic 7 posted. Mostly a poor play simply because, we spread the field horizontally but not vertically. 5 recievers out and all within the same 3 yards for depth. Now, look at where the blockers are. McQ and his guy are directly in line with either the outside Wr or the slot guy at the top. Carp has held his ground but looks to be moving towards the bottom of the pic thus narrowing the lane to the center reciever. The combo block by Unger and Sweez is right in the lane the TE needs, and from the hair, Sid at the bottom is either running a hook or comeback. RW has a nice lane to Sid but there is no separation at all. Also, we need to give the Tits some credit as all 3 of their Cb's are owning our guys on this play, and either the Lb or S who has TE responsibility is stuck like glue. If indeed this play was designed to free up the middle, their other 2 defenders stayed home and are in good position.

If you watch the GIFs on the FieldGulls site, you will see some of our receivers (usually Rice) beating a CB on deep routes, but there is always a single high safety chilling 40 yards back waiting for Wilson to throw that pass. Big takeaway is that Russell is making good decisions with the ball and is actually scrambling in the right situations.

Not completely my point 7. Both our Wr's are coming out of their breaks in the pic, and BOTH are breaking IN. Slot guy is just putting on the brakes, or in effect rounding his route. TE, our biggest and slowest is the only guy heading vertical, leaving the middle guy as what should be primary. But, how would this play look if both outside guys were 7 yards deeper? Why did we have 4 out of 5 recievers break off their routes in the same 3 yard zone?

Didn't read beyond page one, so sorry if already suggested.

RW probably gains more yards on the ground than any other qb in the league. Obviously he knows this, and for better or worse it surely makes him inclined to tuck and run rather than put it up there.

The 5-0

5-1, and still w/out Harvin, and numerous o-lineman missing games.

This is why RW is invaluable to this team. Not many other QBs would be 5-1 with their line in such disarray. A few are being way too critical of RW missing what some perceive to be "wide open WRs". It's been beaten to death, but with not much more than 3 seconds to diagnose, then release with accuracy, he has no time to be scanning the field for alternatives. His 1st option is basically his only option.

So, does he force the ball, like a Palmer, Shaub, etc etc. would do... or better, throw the ball into the cheap seats, ending drives and hopes of division supremacy? Hell no. He's pulling it down and taking what's available, getting positive yardage while simultaneously gassing the D. I give Bevell and Pete a lot of credit for their willingness to let RW improvise a bit more over the past few weeks. Can they let him open it up even more? I suppose so, but as long as we continue to win with this make-shift O-line...no sense in getting too cute with our franchise QB.

I'm still not really hearing / seeing too many hating on RW (as some have reported) and I am very happy about that. I hate stupidity.

Great pics Dave, thanks.

Just confirms our suspiscion that Rusty's being prudent with the ball and not putting us in a possition to turn the ball over. If the game's on the line I truly believe that russell is talented enough to put the ball in the right sopt and our recievers are talented enough to win the fight for it, but at no point on Sunday were we ever in a position where we needed to force the issue. Good stuff. Stick to the plan. Pound the rock, play great defense.

I haven't read every post. Sorry if this has been said already. I too see guys open but like Brock mentioned and a lot of coaches (namely Saban and Belichek) we don't know the play called or progression. A guy that looks open maybe clearing out. He may be the fourth guy in the progression and Russ gets to the second read and has to take off.
