Is Anthony Richardson worth pick 5?

This isn't the only draft that will have top QB talent. It SEEMS LIKE we have high rate QB play in hand. But we desperately need to improve our defense so whatever QB we have has a chance to show his goods are the real deal. I would like to see us work to position ourselves for a high pick in '24 and get out defense fixed this year. Otherwise whoever we pick at QB will be in the same situation as Fields was in Chicago.
I think the guy from Tennessee is every bit as good as Levis or Richardson and maybe better. But the best fit of all of them will be available in '24.
I don't necessarily disagree, but unless we absolutely suck this year, which is unlikely after we beef up the D line, how are we going to be in position to get one of those guys in '24??

A cool moment came when Richardson met with the Seahawks. Richardson said he felt an instant rapport with energetic coach Pete Carroll.

"He had this big smile on his face," Richardson recalled. "We shook hands, and something about it was just different. You only see these guys on TV. And now I'm in their presence and they're right there talking to me. And they're interested in me. That makes you feel good."

That's a good point. The best way that comes to mind for me is trading down at #5, but not too far, and getting a first-round pick next year from a team that might not be good in the 2023 season as part of the trade (along with that team's not-far-below-#5 pick in the 2022 draft, of course).

There's some risk involved in that kind of approach, of course. If you remember just under a year ago, just about everyone initially thought the Seahawks got fleeced in the Russell Wilson trade, and one of the reasons was that everyone was figuring the Seahawks would be bad in 2022 and the Broncos, who some thought were just "a QB away" from being title contenders, would be good in 2022, so the 2023 draft picks the Seahawks got from the Broncos would not be very valuable. I myself thought initially that the Seahawks didn't get enough for Wilson (and I was angry that he had used his no-trade clause to veto a trade to the Commanders that looked better for the Seahawks), but I came to see the Wilson trade as one of the greatest in NFL history (viewed from the Seahawks' side, and therefore one of the worst in league history from the Broncos' point of view), almost certainly not as great in team-improvement terms as the Hershel Walker trade was for the Cowboys, but pretty damn great.

I’d be shocked if Young comes in at 210, 200 is probably a stretch.

The truth with Young is you‘re banking on the league continuing to protect the QBs and excepting the risk of injury is worth the talent.

For me the Mendoza line is 6’ 200# for him to be a top 5 pick. He’s a talented QB, but he’s not a lightning quick twitch guy so scheming around size limitations gets more complicated.

For reference: Murray is 5’10” @ 210#

Murray looks like he outweighs him by 30+ lbs

If you sign Geno for another 2-3 years? Yes, not addressing any of the MANY immediate needs to progress this roster beyond a fringe WC team.

If you don't sign Geno? Richardson is absolutely worth it at #5 to hopefully find your QB for the next decade.

I've said up until now that Geno and drafting a QB like Richardson aren't mutually exclusive, but that's all changed after Richardson wow'd everyone at the combine...........he's not lasting past pick 5 or 6.

I’ve made previous statements that were pretty much stating I’d be happy with our first four picks being all defense.

I’m far from a talent scout or analyst so…I flip flop (like Vegas did/does). I’d take Richardson in a heartbeat.

But…seeing PC and JS get back into what they did this past draft, I trust that whatever decisions they make are going to be the best for the team. Not LJ or Eskridge best but, the best.

Skip and Shannon both just said that Young and Stroud are the only 2 QBs worth taking early in this draft. They said the combine doesn't mean anything when it comes to Richardson and Levis and that we should look no further than the game film to see that neither are very good. They said both of them seemed too arrogant. Skip compared Levis to Wentz.

They're probably right about the Stroud and Young part, but we all know QB's are overvalued and almost always go before they should.

Because the position is too valuable to hope they last until where the consensus is that they SHOULD go, so teams fall all over each other trading up to get one if they think it's worth it.

They're not wrong.

You're basically projecting what Richardson & Levis will be.

I agree with Skip's take on Levis. Watching his film, I'm not a fan.

Richardson is so polarizing. Some will fall in love with the athlete & potential. Others see the negatives & will write him off completely.

Perfect 10? Holy moly. Richardson's raw, but he might be the 1st or 2nd QB taken now.

Came to post the same thing. Wouldn't be mad at the selection.

It really concerns me that with a team as deep as Florida, AR did not really carry them. Great QBs should carry their teams.
Hooker carried his team, even to a win against teams like Alabama. He was regularly exceptional when the lights were their brightest.
AR didn't, at least not consistently.
AR is tremendously gifted. But not really an exceptional QB right now. Maybe with time/development but how would that work for a top 10 pick? He might be a lottery ticket, but most lottery tickets lose.

Fields was never a good QB prospect. His mechanics as a passer have always been questionable.
Fields has had very poor OL and WR group. He had excellent production and good players surrounding him at Ohio State. That’s the biggest difference.

Quite sure he had more interviews with other head coaches than just meeting with Pete, but he singled out his interaction with Pete to ESPN. Also, Richardson had no person bubble issues.

So what's the chance Seahawks draft Richardson at #5 still?

Seeing as they just blew their free agency wad for the next few years, they're going to need the picks to get enough players just to fill the roster.

I don't like this move, at all.
