They should only play 2 preseason games. Add 1 more game making a 17 games over 19 week season with two byes.

Every team should get a bye before they play on Thursday and before any overseas games.

I also think they should expand rosters to 60 players to lessen the need to force players to play injured.

And I think it is only a matter of a few years before a player gets paralyzed or dies on special teams and the league removes kickoffs.

If the NFL really cared about safety, they wouldn't allow West coast teams play @1:00pm eastern time when they are still asleep.

They give teams that play overseas a bye the following week, right? I'm not sure which is better, the before or the after but I think they do attempt to address it. The problem with the bye for the Thursday game is that unless they are going to have teams on a bye all season long, it doesn't work competitively. That is, you could have some teams on a bye before their Thursday game and some teams not. You'd have some teams not getting a bye until the second to last week of the season while some teams got their bye the first week of the season.

They did something like this back when they had only 31 teams but that was more of a stopgap than a long-run solution.

There shouldn't be Thursday games period, no way player bodies are recovered in four days to play again.

But hey, all of this stuff we're talking about the player's association has agreed to for more of the money pie.

The NFL absolutely cares about player safety. However, the NFL also has to care about a million other things to continue producing quality entertainment. A healthy balance is required to keep everyone satisfied so that the league doesn't fall apart. There are ways to improve player safety, and there are ways to improve the level entertainment. But not every improvement in a particular aspect results in an aggregate improvement of the product.

The same people that talk about how concussions are bad for football players also like to say that it is important for quarterbacks and cornerbacks not to have short-term memories. Can't have it both ways.
