Really?

I think Fischer is widely regarded inside NFL circles as a very good coach. He certainly made the Titans relevant for a long time, something they haven't gotten back to since he left.

I think Russell is pretty universally recognized as a superstar at this point. He's at least in the same discussion as Luck. That debate will go back and forth. I think the whole "game changer" vs. "game manager" thing is probably obsessed over here more than anywhere else.

What do our rival fans and media members always say? "Things will get tough for Seattle once they have to PAY Russell Wilson a huge contract." They are basically conceding that Russell is a superstar QB deserving of an elite contract when they say that.

I think it's more the fact that the extra cap room we've had getting Russell on the cheap (as well as some other players) has allowed us to have a crazy deep roster full of stars...........more than other fans admitting Russell's a "superstar."

From talking to my buddies that live in other cities, they like Russell a lot, but they don't consider him an Elite QB, or even in the top 10............but they will...........they will.

Carroll is the far superior coach, but I agree that Jeff Fisher is also a very good coach. The trajectory he has taken the Rams looks good for them. Their draft class was a game changer. They should take another step forward this year and then become contenders in 2015. On paper, every aspect of their team should improve except the passing game. I personally think Fisher is a Top 5 coach in the NFL; he's paid like a Top 5 coach.

You can't use "game manager" as a negative if you have been watching what Carroll is doing with the Seahawks. Making smart decisions and protecting the football is the most important criterion for a team with our defense. That isn't the only aspect to Russell Wilson but it is one of the most valuable things he does for us.

For all of those who think RW is just game manager you should Re-calibrate your thinking. He is a game changer. He's able to limit mistakes and make huge plays when you need him to. Those two factors have brought us a Lombardi.

Does anyone think he is a game manager here?

There is nothing wrong with being a game manager. Why is that all of a sudden a derogatory term for a QB?

This.

It's people on the outside that label him what they want. Most if not all Hawks fans know what impact Russell has on this team.

Ugh...does anyone know who started this whole "game manager" thing about a QB being a bad thing to be? IMO, a QB must be a game manager. Move the chains, don't turn it over, burn the clock, get the ball into scoring position, use the sidelines etc. It's all about managing the game. How can a QB that manages the game effectively be considered a negative thing? Everytime I hear a so called expert bag on a QB by saying they are a game manager I think what a moron. Am I missing something here?
I blame Trent Dilfer.
And Brad Johnson.

A lot of elite QBs have bad coaches. Peyton Manning literally hasn't had a good coach in his whole career; Dungy is probably the closest thing. Aaron Rodgers carries Mike McCarthy. Chuck Pagano is a damn joke but Andrew Luck is going to carry him for years.

Jeff Fisher could have plenty of success with Russell Wilson as his QB, especially since that would mean that Russell would be exempt from playing against Fisher's dirty defenses.

He'd look terrible in that toilet swirl helmet.

And we'd be having a terrible time winning our division.

I blame the OP if I have that nightmare tonight.

No way the Rams would be as good as the Hawks are now if you gave them Wilson.

None of their DBs are close to anything like the Hawks, they don't have a runner like Lynch, they don't have the homefield advantage, they don't have guys at WR that will make plays like we've seen Baldwin and Kearse make, Austin doesn't change things the way Harvin does, their TEs don't block like Miller.

Fisher is an overrated coach who hovers around.500 for the most part but is thought of highly because of how long it took the Titans to fire him; he doesn't offer what Pete does. The Rams also don't have the same caliber of 2's, 3's and guys to make up their special teams that are the same quality as the Hawks (guys the Hawks cut early in camp - Veltung and Armstrong feature on their special team units)

Would they beat the Hawks? sure, because the Hawks wouldn't have their QB anymore and Russell is good enough to sway the difference between the teams considering that Bradford or someone else is their QB; but they wouldn't be as good.

The Hawks are the most dominant Super Bowl champ in recent memory due to the insane strength of their team 1-53, though the QB certainly played a role, the team can still win and dominate without leaning too heavily on him as the Broncos or Saints do (we saw both teams look awful if their passing game gets shut down).

And I don't get the negative connotation with 'game manager' , I think it is an apt description for Russ. Put up efficient yet not big passing numbers, don't turn it over, keep the chains moving, get in and out of the huddle, don't screw it up, make plays when they are there to be made. He is better than perfect for what the QB is asked to do on this team.

Well you are so wrong on so many levels, the rams only gave up 8 points more a game then we did, that is not a lot. A good QB that does not turn it over and can sustain drives, while making big plays can help the defense a lot. The rams scored 22 points a game with a crap QB now add Rw and that goes up at least 8 points and there you go. As to your obvious attempt to say any QB would do on our team, you should watch the games more, Rw had 5 4th qtr or OT comebacks this year that 80% of the QBs in this league do not do, behind the worse pass blocking o-line in the league. 90% of the QBs in the league could not have done that and most would not have survived. I agree it takes all 53 but you still need Elite/franchise players in there. No team in the history of the NFL won an SB without some Franchise/elite level talent, and 88% of the teams that won had that at QB just like we do. SO yeah Rw on the Rams would make them a top team, and worst make us a middle of the pack team at best.

Russell Wilson does what he is asked to do. If he is asked to be a game manager, then he does it and does it perfectly. If he's asked to be a game changer, he does that and does it well. If one labels RW as game manager, they can also do the same for many of the other QBs as well. He doesn't put up gaudy stats and that's why he's looked at as a game manager. If one watches his play on a regular basis, it's far from the "game manager" definition. He does his job within the parameters he's given. That's why he has most wins in 2 years and a world championship under his belt.

Agreed the biggest difference I see is that Rw can be what we need him to be, He ha shown he could easily put up 300+ yards if needed to, we have also seen he can thro for only 200 and be highly efficient if need be. We have seen he can shred defenses with his feet, and keep plays alive if need be, Those things alone make him Elite as there are not a lot of QBs that can do all that.

I have a lot of friends in other cities most do see Rw as Elite only the ones that really never watched him or just refuse to give another teams player any credit say he is not

Jman316- Sorry for the bad dreams.

I used the "Game Manager" moniker because of the supposedly how condescending it is for a QB. We all know the best QB are great game managers.

What struck me about the Rams with Wilson is how eerily they are like us pre Russell. I know there is slight differences but they have a lot good pieces that just need that "Player" to take them to the next level.

I would bet the Russell woul make their WR's and RB's better. So the defense knows that the offense will not hurt them they play even better. So just by inserting Wilson into that lineup may have a very nice cause and effect.

Arizona would match this scenario. Russell down there would tilt the field even more on a team that seems on the cusp.

I would say, first identify which QB is the prototypical game manager in today's NFL, and then compare Russell Wilson to him. So, how similar is he to Alex Smith?

"Game manager" is a negative term used by the talking heads.

Tom Brady is a game manager, Peyton Manning is a game manager, Aaron Rodgers is a game manager. EVERY QB in the NFL tries to manage the game with long drives consisting of short low risk passes/run game. Some pass more, some run more. But it's ALL game managing.

It's a stupid term, and certainly applies less to dynamic QB's like Russell, Kaep, Vick, Newton and RG3 than pure pocket passers like those I mentioned above.

Just my little input here about managers. Leaders Lead People. Managers manage items. So if you say that RW is leading his team to win...I agree. If you say he is controlling the clock and controlling the ball, that would be managing. We could call him a game leader and manager in the same sentence and not be wrong. The talking heads only shorten it because they are lazy and dont understand the difference. That is all.

The rams would be in fantastic shape with RW. So would Zona. Niners.....need a lot more than that. :stirthepot:

Except Wilson is not a game manager. So your whole idea is wrong to begin with

Russell Wilson manages to win games

Back on the ORIGINAL TOPIC . If Wilson was on the Rams , Cards , 49ers , Jets , Bucs , Panthers , Bills , Dolphins , Titans , Vikings , Giants , Redskins , Eagles , Cowboys , Texans , Jaguars and Chiefs they all would be CONTENDERS for a Superbowl

and we would be worse.
