How did secondary do today?

How did we do on the backend? I did not see the whole game.

Fairly good.

Hard to say facing a QB who had never played in the regular season the 2nd half. The only real big whiff was Delano Hill getting beat by JuJu on a flea-flicker. Lots of underneath stuff like last week. Shaq quietly had another really solid week even though he got beat for their last 2 TD on a short pass.

He bit on the run, but he did do a pretty good job of getting back on him. That was a really well thrown ball and catch. He could have done better but if he hadn't responded well it would have been worse.

The flea flicker was taking advantage of him being a replacement for the starter and being pumped up, they didn't go after him very much with anything else. Teams are still attacking the zone where they are pulling the CB deep and using the LB to cover the drag man. This week you rarely seen them go deep unlike last week where it was often, Tells me coaches got the communication down.

Honestly, they were very average. Hill > Thompson for sure. Jamar Taylor had a really nice pass break up on a deep ball. I can't remember if he got his head turned, but even if he didn't, it was nice to see. But Mason Rudolph seemed to have his way with them. I think this was his first action in a regular season game.

I'm all for JS swinging a trade with Miami for Minkah Fitzpatrick. I feel like the secondary is the weakest link on this team by a mile.

Both Pittsburgh quarterbacks had multiple passing plays where they had to hold onto the ball and improvise. Every time that happens, it's the work of the secondary.

The pass rush, however, only took advantage a couple times. Severely deficient.

I believe that Pittsburgh was holding in an extra blocker to help,out the rookie as well. Could be wring, but I recall that being the case a few times. They were making the QB move, but not getting home.

It's become clear to me that secondaries are becoming irrelevant in today's NFL. On Sunday 12 QB's surpassed a 100 QB rating. The league rules to help QB's out is clearly working when the 12th best QB on the day can get a QB rating formerly reserved for HoF worthy QB's.

You disrupt passing games with pass rush these days. Secondaries are there to clean up errors but they just aren't allowed to cover or hit these days. Tight coverage leads to PI calls, hits to dislodge the ball are targeting, hand fighting is holding. It's ridiculous if you ask me. I'm still hoping someday the league makes playing DB a worthwhile pursuit, but today ti seems pointless.

The D was much improved overall in that game and you could see they came to play right away.
Shoot, they gave up 261 total yards. That's damn good against any team.
