Thought I'd share for a little levity.

I just saw this posted on social media and thought it actually might be more true of the Seahawks. Who knows - it may exist for them and I'm just late to the game.

I feel like this is my cardiac state during almost every Seahawks game I watch - whether it's because it's closer than it should be, just down to the wire, suddenly giving me a small scrap of hope where I once had none, or snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

You know the sad part? Last year I saw memes related to that for the CHIEFS. THE CHIEFS. It pissed me off so much I had to put my phone away for a while so I wouldn't throw it.
That reminds me of something. Back in the late 70's/early 80's when MNF was huge, there was a bar in Denver that would get some old TV set, mount it in the center of the bar (this was before the days of wall-to-wall TV's in sports bars nowadays), and put MNF on it. They'd raffle off a brick, and the winner of the raffle had one instruction: Wait until Howard Cosell said something stupid, and he could throw the brick through the TV. They said it was a great promotion.

There is something about rooting for a football team that just drives you crazy. I find that it's sometimes more enjoyable to watch two other teams play. My goal this year is to try to relax and have more fun watching the Seahawks games.

In a lofty place tanglin' with Satan over history.

This. I can honestly say I don’t enjoy watching us play these days. Dropping expletives, jumping off my couch ‘DAPHUCK RIQ?!?’ with the newly added ‘I thought we fired that asshat Grubb’ being repeated every offensive series..

If we win, I get happy after.

I learned long ago that I am a complete, unbridled, neurotic mess watching the Seahawks. In fact, I’d put my sheer level of neurosis on Gameday up against anyone’s.

I watch live only if things are going well. If not, I pause, I distract myself, find something else to do. I fast forward through ANY great play by the opponent and certainly any time the opposing fans cheer over our misfortune.

My blood pressure is protected dramatically over the advent of the DVR I can’t even tell you. I probably would have had a heart attack years ago.

Friends and family can hardly stand watching a Seahawks game because of my level of neurosis and pausing and fast forwarding. I’m almost incapable of just watching the game in real time like most humans.

I’m okay with that.

Whatever works and saves me from massive blood pressure spikes and arrhythmias. Sadly, it’s rare where we are dominating from start to finish where I can just watch the game and enjoy it like a normal person.

I’ve become so emotionally invested I can’t just enjoy the game for what it is, good, bad, or indifferent. I can’t tell you how many times I stopped watching a game in the second half because it was too stressful so I had to tell my daughter to only text me if it’s good news, or just wait until I know the game is over and check the score online, and if we won I can watch the rest of the game in peace and relaxed.

The neurosis is real.

The pause button will be in full action this Sunday, as per usual.

Last Sunday I was convinced we had crapped our bed and were doomed at the 2 minute mark. But I hung in and all of a sudden at the 1:09 mark I thought OMG we're gonna win this yet!!! One second later the Bosa moment happened and it was "call the doctor"! We had had another Geno moment.

I like how you characterized our last offensive play: A Geno moment. That last fumble, although not all on Darnold, was classic Geno.

I've actually found myself being a little less emotional with our Hawks than I was 10 years ago. It started with Pete's chronic mediocrity and hasn't gotten a lot better. So far during the Macdonald era, I find myself in a wait-and-see mode. I was optimistic at the start of the season and generally supportive of our moves, i.e. trading Geno and Metcalf, drafting an OG with a #1 and trading up to get Nick E, but this loss to the Niners has brought me back down to Earth. Macdonald and his edition of the Seahawks are going to have to win back my enthusiasm, and I was supremely disappointed last Sunday.

I agree with you. Strangely enough, I think the height of my insanity was the Super Bowl year. Maybe because we all knew what was at stake that year and the expectations were throught the roof. And maybe partly because my son had gone off to college, and he was no longer there to mediate my anxiety. (You're much less crazy if you're watching the game with your child.) That Tampa Bay overtime game just about killed me. Thank god the Super Bowl was a cake walk.

I'm the opposite of you in that I have come into this season far more pessimistic about our chances, and I think that is making me feel more relaxed. Those guys who think this is a 13-4 team are probably more likely to go out of their heads.
