Regardless of his injury situation, I'm of the opinion that he needs to play more of a WR role and not be a detriment to the offense in run blocking. He's literally one of the worst run blocking TEs I've ever seen. He's a power forward of a pass catcher, but unfortunately he's also a basketball player in the run blocking department in that he's just flat out too tall/doesn't have leverage and lacks any measure of strength and toughness at the point of attack. I hope the coaching staff wises up with his strengths and weaknesses.

For what the Seahawks are on offense in terms of the emphasis on the run game, I still prefer Luke Willson specifically at the in-line TE position. He's obviously not the pass catcher, but pros and cons....

True, quit trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and use him for the mismatch that he is in the seam and redzone.

Age old story that will always be. Want to vs what is.

He isn't Zach Miller (either the old or new) use him as he is not how you want. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Generally works that way for most, football or otherwise.

Pete seems to be weirdly old school about the TE position though.

Kinda reminds me of what Holmgren said about McEvoy when someone mentioned that they could use him as a TE also, "He's not a TE" Holmgren said. Not to discount what you say, but he isn't being old school as much as he is being realistic as to what a TE actually is. Yes, JG lines up as a WR sometimes, but we have WR's who are faster and run better routes. I am sure I am not telling you anything you don't know, but we want LB's guarding JG, not DB's. The TE's real value is their ability to create mismatches and also uncertainty when delaying their routes and outlet.

I think we are going to see more 2-TE sets this year.

I feel like JG gets a bad rap for his blocking. Sure, he's abysmal against DEs 1v1 but a LOT of TEs struggle with that. Doesn't mean he can't except at combo blocking, chipping, and hitting LBers. He's a big dude. It's about the want to. He's a touch soft when he doesn't have the ball. When he does, he runs people over.

Can't wait to see big 88 again.

Agreed,Its all about desire.

I have never been a big fan of finesse TEs.This O runs better with a traditional TE that fits the physical style they play. From that view he kind of is a square peg in a round hole.

He's Dirk Nowitski when we need a Dennis Rodman.
