Kid was All-Conference all 4 years in the PAC-12. First 3 years at RG, and his senior year at RT. Scrappy and nasty. Obviously, a rookie and raw. But, I like that Mike is sending a message to all the players. Everything is earned. Go take it.

Who knows if he’ll be good or bad, but I know he can only get better if he plays. And not one RG so far has run away with the job.

This is what real competition looks like again. Macdonald really has some quiet intensity at his press conferences. There's no reason to think Haynes won't ultimately be a good player. Rookie OL is hard. He will be better for this.

It’s kinda weird. I wonder why this happened, an injury or something? Seems like our line played pretty good last game so why make a change?

Ok wow I guess I coulda just read the article…. Bradford injured and Sataoa just won the job over Haynes…

Word is Haynes just isnt strong enough yet and that Sataoa is just better at the point of attack .

Sounds like he will be better for the run game maybe.

Good thing is that one would assume he is also quick enough in pass pro at Guard given his experience at RT.

Many fans don't realize how hard some football jobs can be. OL, kind of like WR, often takes 2-3 years to really come into their own in the pro game. Over the last decade or so it has been even harder as colleges increasingly move to spread formations and all out passing attacks. Developing good run blocking skills can take a year or two for many guys. Having a rookie step right in and up is rather rare, with the exception of guys picked in the top 10 of round one. Even in those cases it is often not automatic.

Beat me to it, this is to address the absolute futility at run blocking. 100%

I just watched a tape of Haynes while in college, and he looks fit and relatively trim for an O-lineman.

Not so now. Did someone advise him to put on 25 lb. of blubber??

Cuz, that's what he looks like now. Might be part of the reason he's struggling.

He is a 3rd round pick, far from a sure thing. He still has time to develop. He did a huge jump in competition from college. No reason to be too concerned.

Much were ready to call Derek Hall a bust too

I don't think many are calling him a bust yet, just that it's not looking good. Of course the guy could pan out in the long run.
It's the fact that he can't even get on the field when they've been searching for someone to step up and nobody has. That doesn't look good.

Other IOL picks selected after Haynes are starting in the NFL right now and getting that valuable experience that Haynes is not.

RG Dominick Puni 3-87
LG/RG Layden Robinson 4-103
OC Tanor Bortolini 4-117
RG Mason McCormick 4-120
OC Beaux Limmer 6-217
RG Dalton Tucker UDFA

Hopefully Laumea can be that guy. If one of Laumea/Haynes becomes a quality starter then I think we'd all be happy.

For example, Luke Joeckel was the second player picked in the 2013 draft.

Rooting for Laumea. Couldn't be much worse than what we were seeing at RG, and could eve be better.
He must have been making plays against Big Cat, JReed, and others in practice. MikeMac says he's earned it.
MikeMac made chicken salad out of chicken poop at LB, can he do this at OL too?

Wacky how MikeMac keeps channeling some of the best of Pete Carroll, "Always Compete", like when 5th rounder KJ sent the top draft pick to the bench.
Keeps Channeling? I'm hearing phrases from the Hawks D that remind me of the great Carroll defenses in '12, '13, '14.

You have to churn at weak spots to make it better, I think this should
always be the case otherwise nothing improves.
We went from S to DL to LBs and now OL is the focus.
I keep hearing OC is getting heat too now.

I agree. Everything I've heard suggests he's getting the call because he's stronger and hopefully will be able to help create a running lane or two. We definitely need it.

Laumea is going to help the run game. He is a smart player that is adept at climbing to take out more than one dude.

Maybe Laumea took the job, or maybe Haynes lost it and Laumea was just the last guy still standing. It's an opportunity, but could go either way. Tape of this game v QWilliams will follow Laumea for a while...may determine who's on the roster next season. If Haynes wasn't benched this week, he easily could have been after facing QWilliams. If QWilliams takes control of the right side of the line, Haynes may benefit from not playing. Let's hope, at the end of the day, the Seahawk DL has a better day than Jets'. That comparison probably determines the game outcome.
