Fumbling bumb wilson!

After watching to nights game with Peyton Manning missing his two starting offensive tackles. It makes me feel a whole lot better about Russell Wilson. Its nice to see maybe the best quarterback ever struggling with the same fumbles and pocket presence issues. It doesn't seem like it but the game is a whole lot different for QBs when there starting tackles are gone.

Long story short the game tonight and the past weeks have made me respect the Tackle position a lot more. It also has to make hawk fans miss Walter Jones a lot more too

I can't believe we're 6-1 after fumbling the ball 16 times this year "yea we lead the league in that stat too" 16 times!!! We're either really lucky or really good or maybe just a combination of both. However I will admit that I cringe now when I see Russell hold onto the ball and stay in the pocket.

I cringe when I see RW hold onto the ball in the pocket because Okung and Breno aren't there to stop pass rushers from getting to RW. Everyone keeps talking about Harvin coming back, but our protection is, by far, the biggest issue on our offense right now. McQuistan and Bowie are filling in admirably well, but our offense just isn't the same with Okung and Breno out. It's not a coincidence that Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson have become more prone to getting the ball knocked loose when the starting offensive tackles aren't in. When do Okung and Breno get back?

Breno doesn't exactly bring expert skill as far as blocking. However what he does bring to the table as far as attitude makes up for his lack of skill as a blocker.

Great point! It doesn't excuse Russell for being responsible for at least that one fumble vs. AZ inside our own 5, but not having his two starting bookends is what put him in that situation in the first place.

Walt Jones was a stud. I wish I had the stat, but I saw once where Big Walt had just 10 holding penalties called on him in 13 years, or something like that.

Everybody vastly underestimates Breno because of his mental mistakes that result in penalties frequently, but if you go strictly off play, he's an outstanding tackle for this offense until we develop another right tackle. He's aggressive, he locates blocks well, he has the hustle to get downfield and make downfield blocks consistently and he finishes. He can get beat on the pass rush, but he rarely whiffs on a block or completely misses an assignment, which gives Wilson time to escape. He might not win every battle, but he rarely lets guys come almost completely free. Okung is a stonewall on the blindside and you couldn't ask for a better LT when he's healthy.... When he's healthy.

Anybody that thinks we're as well off with McQuistan at LT and Bowie at RT as we are with Okung and Breno is delusional. The difference between Bowie and Breno is noticeable. I like the potential and the ability Bowie has, but his ability to locate blocks and make blocks at the second level, as well as pass protect isn't at the same level as Breno. I want Okung back because Okung is one of the best offensive tackles in the league and I liked how our offense operates with McQuistan at left guard... Yes... IMO.. McQuistan is the best LG for our offense.

I saw that stat broken down into holding penalties per pass play. It was something like one holding penalty per 1,000 passing attempts or some incomprehensible number like that.

Thanks again for re-booting my memory. Keep in mind that the last couple of injury plagued years saw Walt give up a lot higher sack rate than he did in his prime. I think Andre Ware got him 2 or 3 times in one of Walt's final games. View those numbers over 11 years and they'll look even more impressive.

I think Bowie keeps the RT job once Breno is healthy. Or perhaps he is moved to Guard. Not sure, but it would be stupid to drop Bowie. He looks incredible out there when you factor in the situation of coming on in your rookie year when you haven't entirely learned or become comfortable with the scheme. He is a gem, and I think he will be playing once Breno is back.

Just looking at Bowie, he reminds me of the definition of a LT in that movie blindside. I haven't looked at his measurables, but he has those massive hands and long arms that come with a premier LT. He has mobility and strength. I think he will be a starter on this team.

When you're that good, you don't need to hold. Holding is a desperation play from olinement, one reason Carpenter has so many.
