...we did NOT trade down with our first round pick. And that's with picking at #32 in a year where we have just four picks total, and with the six picks before ours - and eight of the last nine - all being traded.

It might not be our thing anymore.

I like to have volume in picks but I also believe if there’s a guy you want who might not last you take him. I’m guessing we really wanted him

Really shocking it's been that long. He's really been surprising me these last couple of drafts especially.

I suppose trading down twice in the first, and then an additional time in the second, passing up TJ Watt and Ryan Ramczyk in the process, just to end up with Malik McDowell would create some significant mental scarring. We havn't done it since.

I have a feeling the VP had a big deal in that previous years ;)

I don’t believe a high quantity in draft picks are automatically “better” than less picks.

Some drafts just are not filled with NFL talent. In the last 25 years, you can back and see just how much talent Seattle drafted.

Some draft years are just bad for all teams, not just, Seattle.

However, I think Schneider, has learned considerably in the past 4 drafts and I welcome this start with the selection of Price. Maybe Seattle just has the four picks this year, so what, what if all four turn out to be quality players. Most teams are lucky to get 3 quality players with their yearly drafts. And Seattle isn’t desperate to add more players, Seattle, has the luxury of great coaching. So if Seattle does not have more than 4 picks this year, I am content with it, since, Seattle is the Super Bowl Champions! Coaching matters, and last year absolutely proved it, and it might matter right now more than obtaining more picks.

Seattle will be fine with 4 picks. Why, cause everywhere else that helps put a product on the field, Seattle is elite.

Let’s goooo!!

According to JS, they did try to trade down. Just didn't pan out because so many teams trading up in front of their pick. None of us know what their board looked like. They got one hell of a player. On to tomorrow ✌️

For sooooo many reasons, I am not a sold out fan of JS. However, the trash bag seems to come out on top...and he just won a super bowl. It hurts me, but give him a chance

It's also how their roster shapes up. Almost all of their starters are returning. We still have several very interesting players from last year's draft class who really haven't started contributing yet. And we're absolutely loaded going into next year's draft.

Aside, the reason we have a light class this year is because of the Shaheed trade, which we very well may not have won the SB without. And we resigned him so he's kind of part of this year's class as well in some way.

I think, in John and even Pete's defense, the trade back ninja days were driven by the vapid roster and salary cap they inherited in 2010. They needed quantity just as much as quality at that time so stockpiling picks was a big priority. Plus with Pete's intimate knowledge of so many college players it was easy to see why they wanted to go find diamonds in the rough on days 2 and 3. In the years after the massive roster purge and turnover when they were still trading back somewhat regularly, I think it then had to do with draft depth in those particular years and their lack of pressing needs with such a loaded, young and balanced roster. I could see John returning to those tactics in the future if/when the circumstances are right.

Yeah, the moving back part. I just meant besides that he's surprised overall. Like drafting a guard in the first round last year. Some other things as well.

I suspect not trading back was not what they desired, but situationally b/c of the numerous other trade ups ahead of 32 made not realistic valuewise. This then resulted in the team just picking the player they had at highest value a position of need.

Was JS just blowing smoke? One thing I’ve learned about this cat is, he’s playing chess while others are playing checkers.

He is never going to show his hand. Love it!
